CREDIT WHERE IT'S DUE: COUNCIL LADIES TERESA LOAR & HEATHER HALL WORKED TO SUPPORT KANSAS CITY TINY HOME COMMUNITY FOR VETERANS!!!
When we talk about Kansas City development and priorities there's usually a cacophony of amateur urban planners hoping to dominate the discussion with chatter that everyone pretends to read via social media . . . But the real work of offering support for zoning, codes and all the rules & regs that threaten every local construction project is often unmentioned.
This week a worthwhile project to help struggling veterans came to fruition.

KMBC: Tiny homes give hope, new life to homeless Veterans
Fox4: 13 homeless veterans get a first look at their new homes as tiny home community opens in KC
KSHB: Tiny homes, big dreams: 13 homeless veterans move into tiny home village Monday
To be fair, this project did earn support from most of the council but we notice that both Council ladies Hall & Loar have been touting this project within, around and throughout City Hall for more than a year.
While so many local politicos are obsessed with touting luxury condo real estate for the richest Downtown Kansas City denizens, it's worth mention that Council members Hall & Loar continually backed this project and encouraged their constituents to do the same.
Developing . . .
It's a nice change of pace.
ReplyDeleteUsually City Hall is at the mercy of developers.
The Schulte gang are already making three light their biggest priority. Doubt that Cordish is making much room for homeless veterans at their properties.
Shhh Tony. Don't you know that we're only supposed to be mentioning the accomplishments of female victims and their accusations against Hollywood directors. Because, you know we all will be better off when there are more female directors. The homeless can enjoy their movies too.
DeleteKC has many homeless, but I'm glad that they're trying to figure out what to do with the veterans first.
Delete13 isn't a lot. There are way more out there and it was VERY cold last night.
What are Heather's views on unsolicited bulk email?
ReplyDeletesLIE didn’t support this project
ReplyDeleteAnything that gives homeless shelter is good but I have to ask how much did these tiny homes cost? My guess is probably in excess of $100,000 each since they were built with someone else's money. I remember the "rehabbed" houses that cost $250,000 and were worth $75,000 when completed.
ReplyDeleteVolunteer labor, donated and discounted materials, plus gifted funds significantly reduced the capital outlay to build these homes. So, plenty more of these worthwhile abodes could have been built for what's been tossed at Killa City's "Free Ride" Two-Mile TooT LooT Toy Trainy Thingy!!!
DeleteIt's a great idea and the veterans deserve the help. I'm just worried that with no on-site supervision, those homes and interiors are going to be trashed in a year or two.
ReplyDeletePretty cool.
ReplyDeleteJust so we can understand how this was all about veterans could we have a racial breakdown on who got the free houses?
ReplyDeleteHas Heather Hall announced whether she's running for Mayor?
ReplyDeleteShe and Theresa Loar seem to be the only ones actually getting things done around here.
For a while it seemed like Ms. Shields was going to become an active member too (A "TriFEMberate"?), but now it looks like Slick Sly called Phil Carderella in and read him the Riot Act, so she's keeping her mouth shut and voting how she's told to.
@ 9:54, except for one or two bits of "whiteface tokenism", I think we can all guess who got the free housing.
ReplyDeleteSick of hearing about all these programs to help veterans. Federal spending on vets has gone up 4 times since 2005. Let the vets suck it in and get to work like the rest of us.
ReplyDeleteAnd how many times have taxes gone up for ADC, prisons, school levies, and other "entitlements"? Plenty GIBSMEDATS' school chilluns get "FREE" breakfasts/lunches/weekend snacks in back paks/laundry services/uniforms/shoes/bus rides/etc., across this nation! So, gramama and mama get to sleep all day because needs are provided by Uncle Sugar to the kiddies. And, when babydaddy is not incarcerated, he's making more babies for Uncle Sugar.
DeleteHall and Loar are the only two council members with their head in the game. The rest are becoming more worthless by the day.
ReplyDeleteHow about rewarding the vets in accordance with performance? When was the last time we won a war?
ReplyDeleteIt's a disgrace!!! We should be building them mansions!!! With gold toilets and incinerators for their shit-filled diapers.
ReplyDeleteI want to complain too!!! How much did it cost!!! Ugh...ugh...Ugh...I'm shitinnnnnnnng!!!!
ReplyDelete12:07's a disgrace, with his coprophilia and golden showers kinking on his buttboiz in the Barry BathHouse stalls. He's poopy pants obsessed.
ReplyDeleteand still you all being useless blabbering twats. Minimum sq ft requirements for homes has always been bullshit.
ReplyDelete13, wow. Problem solved.
ReplyDeleteyeah, wow, i am surprised no men wanted to take credit for the kick off & code changes.
ReplyDeleteCould be a model neighborhood for all the broke retirees we will be seeing over the next 20 years.
ReplyDeleteGo down and take a look at this venture. It is being put together by some good guys and they have thought out all of the wierdness that they will have to overcome..
ReplyDeleteTiny house neighborhoods should be zoned all over the city. Affordable homes that can paid off like a car loan should be big sellers.
