Like it or not, here's a fun fact that is backed up by documentation: The Kansas City Police Department is mostly comprised of white dudes and white ladies.

Amid growing scrutiny of police departments across the nation and the progress of local efforts to garner City Hall control of KCPD, there's a call for change.
Today, City Staff offered this suggestion:
Strategy for improving the diversity of employee recruitment, succession planning, and retention in @kcpolice: Develop a multi-year plan to implement the recommendations of the @kcpolice staffing study.
WHAT DO YOU THINK ABOUT THE PLAN TO ENCOURAGE MORE KCPD DIVERSITY???

ReplyDeleteI don't think most officers have a problem with hiring more police but they want to get the most qualified people. At the salaries they're offering, that might not be possible because a qualified African-American candidate with the right kind of qualifications can earn way more working some place else. That's just life.

The big question is why don’t the minorities want to be cops? The city puts out all jobs with the specific intention of hiring minorities and yet they don’t take them, why???

ReplyDeleteIt's hard to find people that want to be cops so they have to recruit from the areas that have no jobs. Cops don't pay that well and most people don't enjoy hunting humans and killing them or locking them up.
ReplyDeleteWhat difference does it make if the officers are qualified? Give them a uniform, a gun or two, a car, and a book for writing tickets. Don't hire white guys for about a year and the diversity problem will be solved.

Of course, you would have to waive any requirement for a "clean" felony record, and eliminate drug testing, but simply start all Recruitment Literature with the statement that "Only Women and Minorities need apply".
It's not like we need the Police for anything, so let's convert them into another "Politically Correct Jobs Program" that does nothing but hand out paychecks.
How about hiring competent police leadership as a diverse idea.
