JACKSON COUNTY EXEC FRANK WHITE ORDERS ANOTHER VETO THIS WEEK AND TAGS THE LEGISLATURE WITH AN 'UNLAWFUL' ORDINANCE!!!

We can likely expect another override of this veto but the question of State Law remains.

In the meantime, Courthouse Insiders warn us about THE DANGER OF JACKSON COUNTY GRIDLOCK which has already taken hold amid this political fight and has consequences for taxpayers, the Prosecutor's office and anti-crime efforts.

Quote from the exec highlighted in this breaking news note . . .

Jackson County Executive vetoes unlawful ordinance

KANSAS CITY, Mo. – Jackson County Executive Frank White, Jr. has issued a veto of Ordinance 5038, his second veto in less than a week.

On October 30, the Jackson County Legislature voted 7-2 in favor of Ordinance 5038, despite a warning from the Jackson County Counselor that the ordinance was in conflict with state law.

Ordinance 5038 would give the County Legislature the unitary authority to transfer any unencumbered county funds during the fiscal year without the involvement or recommendation of the County’s budget officer. It would likely have a negative impact on the County’s credit rating and essentially, give the Legislature the most limitless control over taxpayer dollars of any legislative body in the State of Missouri.

“I’ve learned in this job that there are some tough decisions, but vetoing an ordinance that is a violation of state law is not one of those tough decisions,” said Jackson County Executive Frank White, Jr. “The voters elected me to be a good steward of their taxpayer dollars and to do what’s right. That’s what I will continue to do.”

On November 3, White vetoed Ordinance 5037, which proposed the creation of three new staff positions within the Legislative Auditor’s Office and increased salary ranges for the legislatively-appointed positions of Auditor and County Clerk. The new positions alone, when including benefits, could cost taxpayers in excess of $500,000 next year, money that could be used to fund critical County needs. Monday, the Legislature voted to override the veto . . .
