TKC BREAKING AND EXCLUSIVE NEWS!!! TRANSIT ACTIVIST CLAY CHASTAIN LAUNCHES RECALL PETITION AGAINST KANSAS CITY MAYOR SLY JAMES!!!

Today, Clay Chastain kept his promise to start an effort to oust Mayor Sly James.

The latest showdown at City Hall is a bigger deal than most voters realize and here's why . . .

- Mr. Chastain's allegations are more substantial than just political rhetoric via media outlet and now represent part of the public record -- Accusing the Mayor of malfeasance and/or misfeasance in a document filed with the City Clerk is a different level of discourse.

- The petition threshold is low thanks to consistently meager voter turnout. Over the course of his civic activism, Clay Chastain has garnered far more valid signatures.

- Mayor Sly James is running out of friends and is now entering the "lame duck" portion of his tenure. He failed to deliver the new airport to his patrons and now consistently runs up against Council opposition as the next group of politicos prepare themselves to run for reelection or higher office.

And so, here is FIRST news of the latest political fight BEFORE it starts. The highlight pull-quote was highlighted by TKC. Checkit:

Clay Chastain: Petition drive to recall Mayor Sly James officially underway

This morning the Committee to Recall Mayor Sly James filed its "Recall Affidavit" with the City Clerk. Shortly thereafter we began circulating the petition at Price Chopper Grocery in Brookside.

For 6-years Sly has consistently violated the public trust and the spirit of honest open government by governing in secrecy and with an iron fist.

More specifically, Sly not only maneuvered behind the scenes (unsuccessfully) to steer an exclusive (and unethical) "no-bid" airport contract to Burns and McDonnell, Sly also abused his power, and exploited the City's legal department, in trying to out maneuver and crush petition challenges from the people concerning... the Downtown Convention Hotel, the Downtown Streetcar System and 3- valid transit petition initiatives (2014, 2016, 2017) submitted to the City from the people.

Now we will see if the voters of Kansas City are fed up with Sly's boss-style leadership, want a new, strong and honest mayor, and if Sly can out maneuver and crush this recall petition to remove him from office.

Sly has told media to go after Clay. He has destroyed his petitions. I hope Clay has the fortitude to stand up to what the mayor might throw at him next.

The sad thing is, it is a bigger deal than what the news is saying.

What happens if Clay gets the signatures?

Can Virginia "recall" Clay, please?

does he have standing in kcmo?

^^^ Yes, the voters who sign the petition have standing in Kansas City, Missouri.

Where do I sign? We have to get rid of Sly before he does more damage.

Go Clay!

At least Clay will stand up and fight for what is right, our local politicians could learn something from him. Sly may have had good intentions initially, but power has corrupted him and he only answers to special interests rather than the people.

Is this productive? Is this what KC needs? It looks to me like Clay is a sore loser who needs to stop trying to impede KC'S progress.

I am happy to sign this petition. Please post locations where it may be signed and also I'd be willing to collect signatures.

Only agree with one sentiment here, there is more support for this than what Mayor James and his supporters realize. He will likely not finish his his term IF he doesn't fight this, it's not something he can ignore.

I'm not a fan of the mayor's politics, but he's a great cheerleader for our city and a recall effort would make us look like dipshits and it would be a waste of money.

I fully expect six current Council members to run for mayor in 2019, plus, who knows who else will run? If Chastain raises enough signatures, it would be interesting to see how that affects the next mayoral race (who announces early/who decides to wait until 2023)

More significantly, there is already a desire among some to amend the charter to raise the threshold on citizen led petitions, and if this recall happens and fails, it could be a spring board for making this charter amendment an issue in the 2019 election. Bad news for KC taxpayers, IMO.

I "fully expect" a dog to run for mayor

Hey Stalder, why don't you run for Mayor? You are the Know-It-All of the Northeast I am told. I'm sure the Mayor's job pays better than your cartoon gig. It would be a great opportunity for you to really expand your social media twittergasms and you could also put that Esq. moniker on your Mayor business cards.

As Bill O'Reilly says, What say you?

I thought Bill O'Lielly said "use the loofah baby"

^^^ I believe that was FALAFEL!

Stalder I sorta kinda feels like you be supportin da Silverback wid a bowtie. Be dat right sadler?

And how come you put up some scary scenario if the petition is successful? You jest might be some lefty LGBTQier.

111 homicides, taxes out the ass and blight all over and tax dollars fillin all da homies pockets. Say again what the cheerleader is doing.

Bryan he makes Kansas City look like nothing but dipshits live here #1 for voting him into office and #2 for not throwing his ass out in his first term.

Al Capone was great cheerleader for Chicago but as we all know it wasn't for the good of Chicago.

Where can one get petitions to circulate. I have been approached by several people in my apartment building wanting to sign.

It wouldn't hurt for public figures to see the public can still weigh in on corrupt ram job fixes, people would like seeing corrective actions work

agentzero said...

He would be subjected to the recall because of the fixes which the public hates, not because of cheerleading. That is how you clean up government.

Where do I sign. Send him back to chasing ambulances looking for clients.
