Kansas City Labor Day 2017 Aftermath: Local Unions Collaborate With New Single-Terminal Airport And GOP Amid Fight For Survival
For those not enjoying a life of privilege i.e. almost everybody . . . There are a lot of unsavory things most people are forced to do in order to make a buck.
Here are recent two examples of economic necessity that are relevant to the struggle of organized labor in Kansas City:
Despite concerns about the rigged bidding, the Democratic Process and the destruction of convenience . . . Kansas City Organized Labor touts the New Airport and hopes to work on a bid that might be one of the most corrupt projects this town has seen since the days of Pendergast.
And then . . .
Given that Missouri is now in the heart of Trump Country and a devoutly Red State . . . With the exception of the old school Missouri Right-To-Work battle . . . Unions have been forced to drop their total Democratic Party allegiance and jump across the aisle and back Republican candidates. Playing both sides of the fence is smart politics and maybe a sign of hope for unions amid increased public support. Still, this is a change up from the classic progressive political playbook and there's no denying that the union vote turning Republican still rankles old school Democratic Party denizens.
Nevertheless . . .
In a world of rapidly changing alliances, it's interesting to watch labor advocates switch loyalties whilst most American workers find themselves without any representation in a political process that's run by special interests.
Developing . . .
Good news the New International Congress is meeting up in Germany in such months.

ReplyDeleteLong live the unions and may they make a strong comeback. As unions decline so do your wages and work protections. Fuck the Ds and Rs, both are anti union, just Rs are worse.

ReplyDeleteEleven dollars for minimum wage, simple. Union should back off on riding a rigged game. It doesn't help their cause.
ReplyDeleteWe respect working folks, there are things we do need that should have been requiring their services. Not the Streetcar or Airport fix jobs.
