TKC MUST READ!!! VICTORIOUS KANSAS CITY QUESTION 1 SUPPORTERS WARN CITY HALL ABOUT CONSEQUENCES OF STREETCAR EXPANSION WITHOUT A CITYWIDE VOTE!!!
In an open and Democratic election, more than 17,000 voters agreed that the streetcar must earn CITYWIDE APPROVAL if it is to expand.
Some denizens of City Hall, paid consultants and acolytes are angry about the election that was far more transparent and open than the rigged and gerrymandered vote among their carefully selected pittance of votes.
And so . . .
IN A KICK-ASS COMMENT SENT TO OUR BLOG COMMUNITY . . . QUESTION 1 BACKERS WARN CITY HALL ABOUT DEFYING THE WILL OF A MAJORITY OF KANSAS CITY VOTERS!!!
And yeah, TKC IS FIRST TO REPORT that the lawsuits are already in the works . . . Still, the statement makes things clear. Checkit:
Supporters of the streetcar have made overtures regarding the city defying Q1 and moving ahead with planning, it's significant to note that while streetcar fanboys have been claiming that the TDD funds the project rendering a citywide vote "oppressive" or "discriminatory," even The Star recently reported that the extensions can't move forward without city participation. In other words, city resources funded with our tax dollars that everyone in KC should have the opportunity to vote for or against the project.
My feeling is that city council should have sought to add a layer of accountability to TDD law long before citizens had to raise 1,700 signatures to address this unethical voting practice by placing Question 1 on the ballot. And of course this has reignited the ignorant, short sighted grumblings of amending the city charter to raise the threshold for citizen led petition. Maybe part of the reason folks don't show up to vote in municipal elections is because city leadership expresses disdain for taxpayers who repeatedly make it clear that they aren't interested in building or expanding streetcar.
Developing . . .
Twice now, in real elections that streetcar has lost.
ReplyDeleteThey only win when they cheat.
government by tricksters.
ReplyDeleteEven in a city where most rational people have left the streetcar lost.
ReplyDeletePrediction- The city will cheat, get caught again, and a legal cascade will follow, Sly's stock will slide further same Troy's
ReplyDeleteBurns will lose as the are now tainted with the failed slam fix and not that strong in qualifications otherwise. And the rumblings will begin for a new generation to replace the long term stale fixtures of a lot of poorly run institutions
ReplyDeleteKansas will call bs on big decisions that affect them (as transit so obviously does)
ReplyDeleteEspecially when process is so crappy and smelly
ReplyDeleteWe need to have another vote about NO TIF's or other economic incentives in the streetcar TDD areas. Because we have been told that just having the streetcar creates such great economic development.
ReplyDeleteOut with the old and in with new energy and integrity if we make it so
ReplyDeleteThe smug bs artists will be outside looking in and hopefully kc government will look a little more like the best managed entities of the region, we can hope, actually we can do
ReplyDeleteElon will have more influence in innovation than Sly and the clueless setting the fix
ReplyDeleteAnd new and not tired old slop replays will allocate much better solutionsComing soon to a city near you
ReplyDeleteFirst test, who wants to be the new public target as a newly elected streetcar authority board is elected
ReplyDeleteWe are preparing to document the arrogant intention to waste many many tens of millions, public not in the mood for Sly's bs
ReplyDeleteAlthough the TDD supporters say the TDD only taxes those within the TDD and who voted for the TDD, in fact the added and regressive sales tax will affect everyone who shops in the area, and the loss of a lane and parking on Main will make it inconvenient for everyone who uses that route, which will probably mean people will avoid Main and drive south on Warwick to Oak, which will increase traffic on that already crowded route and keep people away from shopping on Main.
ReplyDeleteAnd there's always the issue of duplicating an existing service (the MAX). (Cue the crickets.)
This is a stupid idea on many levels. The only positive benefits go to those who will be constructing the streetcar and those whose nose is in the public trough supporting it.
we should give the streetcar district downtown a chance to mature and have the area grow and thrive.
ReplyDeletebuilding another steetcar will distract from the downtown area and dilute the streetcar's benefits for development.
kansas city dilutes its focus with too many projects at once, imho.
let downtown succeed and get to critical mass first.
The continued assertion that the streetcar project spends ONLY money generated in the TDD is demonstratably false.
ReplyDeleteThere were hundreds of thousands of dollars or more taken out of various PIAC accounts for nothing other than PLANNING the last streetcar expansion to the east, which of course, came to nothing. At least $500,000 came out of the Third District's PIAC account, an area of the city which could certainly better use those funds for maintaining and improving streets, sidewalks, and other infrastructure that actually benefits its residents.
It's too bad that the streetcar, like pretty much everything else associated with KCMO government, can't stand on its merits, but constantly requires spin, ginned-up claims, and outright lies to try to trick voters into thinking it's something that it's actually not.
And all of this drains time, management attention, money, and other resources from the high-priority issues facing the city and the people who live here.
It's sad and embarrassing to watch the KCMO electeds repeatedly jerked around by little insider interest groups and folks looking for big checks and to see the consequences for regular people.
The best local government people can buy.
Weez needz to git diz streetcar ting going to da new QuikTrip super duper block goin in on Weztport Rd. Dat way folkz kin git dere microwave eatz, beerz, and lottery ticketz.
ReplyDeleteAll KCMO water and sewer customers paid millions for utility relocation.
ReplyDeletePiss off, Northlanders.
ReplyDeleteIf in five years if the Streetcar has popular support for expansion then we can by all means, but not for two years Sly needs to be refocused on basics. I do expect autonomous shuttles to completely change transit in next year or two
ReplyDeleteElon believes the same thing as do Apple, Google, Nissan, GM, Wall Street, etc.
ReplyDeleteThe Voters are informed. They research you can't scam voters because there is much information outthere.you can fact check.and most of the time my comments are investigative, reports or research. My friends are from many ethnic persuasions, and yes Blacks that don't agree with the Radical groups that try to divide. And the tourist business is great in Missouri no impact on the NAACP,BOYCOTT. CHICAGO TOURIST ARE STILL VISITING ST LOUIS. . .
ReplyDeleteOur Toot Toot is going to to be cut up and used as razor blades. Poor Toot Toot is dead! Poor Toot toot is dead. Play the fife slowly while we dance on the Toot toot grave.
ReplyDeleteThis is twice now the voters have spoken and once again I am sure it will fall on minds closed off to what the voters want.
ReplyDeleteHow about a vote taking place that says the street car can only expand on monies that the line currently in existence generates.
Show me the rule that says public transportation has to be free. Well all know if they charge to ride the damn thing it won't generate enough dough to buy Tony's coffee for one month at Starbucks.
/\ /\ /\
ReplyDeleteExactly- if they charged for the toy train then there would be actual numbers to report actual riders. They can make up any number they want to for the "riders" when free.
FACT :
ReplyDeleteSomebody call 911 - De' Toy Train is rollin down De' street on FIRE
A Rolling inferno' !!!!
News reports it also took out 5 other business as the Rolling Inferno' torches the city !!
KCMO Fire Trucks raced to the rolling inferno' BUT broke down in the process,,,,,,,,,
and so the story goes,,,,,,,,,,,,
