Once again conflicts confront the completely busted process for picking the winning bid on Kansas City's new airport . . . If voters approve.

Here's the sitch:

Of course we know that City Hall & KCMO big money interests want to rig this thing from for Burns & Mac and the bidding was really just because of public outcry against outright corruption at the first offer.

But the connections among Kansas City's elite are always more sordid than most can imagine.

Here's one that's gaining traction . . .

Remember that our blog community reported FIRST that the Branson Private Airport was suing Burns & Mac and this might factor into the bidding.

Now . . .

TKC FUN FACT . . . CITY HALL INSIDERS REVEAL COUNCIL LADY JOLIE JUSTUS CONFRONTS QUESTIONS ABOUT A CONFLICT BECAUSE LAWYERS FROM HER FIRM REPRESENTED BURNS & MAC IN THE BRANSON AIRPORT DISPUTE THAT WAS SETTLED JUST LAST YEAR!!!

The legal battle started in 2013 and no less than three lawyers working for Shook, Hardy & Bacon were part of the fight when things got really serious. Go check Casenet if you want and duplicate our work . . . Don't wanna screencap lawyers and call them out by name because their lunch today costs more than my car.

Still . . .

Like it or not, SHB representing Burns & Mac in this big time airport dispute and then a member of the very same law firm making decisions regarding their bid raises many red flags for even the most skeptical minds @ 12th and Oak.

And so . . .

SHOULD COUNCIL LADY JOLIE JUSTUS RECUSE HERSELF FROM THE SELECTION COMMITTEE GIVEN THAT BURNS & MAC HAS VERY RECENTLY PAID LAWYERS FROM HER FIRM???

There is a lot being kept secret from the public in this process and Council Lady Jolie is usually pretty good about avoiding ethical conflicts.

Nevertheless, this BILLION DOLLAR DEAL is potentially the biggest in Kansas City history and UNTIL NOW this close association has not be disclosed.

Once again there seems to be continued confusion on the part of some residents of KCMO as to the purposes and priorities of the kinds of people you keep electing to municipal office in your town.
They very consistently have little to no understanding and appreciation of municipal public policy or the most basic responsibilities of city government, nor do they have any interest in such boring aspects of being on the city council.
They are clueless empty vessels sitting between a menagerie of consultants, developers, attorneys, grifters, salesmen, and anyone else who would love to dip into your tax money and a $1.4 billion budget, much of which is discretionary and available for anything that comes along, looking out for campaign contributors, or the fad of the day, regardless of the cost.
They don't work for the public and, since voter turnout is so low in KCMO, they really don't care what you think.
Which is only one of the reasons why KCMO is the laughing stock of the metro and entire region.
Justus is merely the latest example, and probably not even the worst.

I wish S'lie, Jolie and the rest of the Council were just as OBSESSED about lowering the crime rate in #KillaCity as they are in this fucking new airport that the public has REPEATEDLY SAID they don't want. The public wants a safe city to raise their families in. Not a newer, smaller, less convenient airport that will ultimately only financially benefit S'lie, his cronies, Burns & Mac and the airlines.

Let's Review:

The proposed new airport terminal was identified as a priority of the KCMO Chamber of Commerce/Downtown Council years ago.

When Burns and McDonnell's Greg Graves retired as CEO, his handpicked successor Ray Kowalik was tasked with cramming the project down KC's throat. Graves had showed him how to do business in KCMO, bribing Mayor James with campaign contributions in exchange for the city financing them a new headquarters building.

Remember that a long time ago, Mayor James appointed Jolie Justus to lead the Airport Committee. That wasn't a fluke, but an important part of the plan in which to hand Burns and McDonnell a sweetheart deal. Justus knows that if she successfully plays her part, she will receive the same type of campaign contribution windfall from Burns and McDonnell for her Mayoral ambitions that was provided to Sly James. You would think the other members of the Council would realize what's going on and force Justus away from the terminal selection committee.

James and Justus aren't representing KCMO taxpayers and citizens, they're working for Burns and McDonnell whose workforce overwhelmingly (approx. 85 percent) lives outside of KCMO.

This is just 1/2 the whole story. Justus has been covering for Burns & Mac in the negotiations for the airport contract. She has allowed B&M to change their bid at least once and now they failed to answer the follow up questions properly and should be eliminated from the process on Monday or Tuesday when the selection committee meets. If this doesn't happen everyone on that committee is exposing themselves to a federal investigation for fraud and bid rigging!

Even the Star story linked in this thread is written by a Burns & McDonnell affiliate. When Kevin Collison left the Star he took a communications position with them (so he said).

A freelance reporter, previously associated with the proposer; he leaves out the attorney for the defendant, fails to mention his former relationship with Burns, and we are suppose to take the Star serious!

If you do NOT want the city to tear down the old and replace it with a new terminal, vote NO when the time comes. It's our only weapon in this situation. It may not stop them from doing what they want, but it will slow them down. Vote NO Vote NO Vote NO
