This decision wasn't even close and just as our blog community predicted . . .
"The Kansas City Board of Police Commissioners announced Friday that Maj. Rick Smith will be the new police chief. The announcement was made at an early afternoon news conference. Smith will begin his new duties on Aug. 15. He joined the department in 1988 and has worked as a patrol officer, tactical response officer and supervisor of the homicide unit."
While Maj. Smith has many fans and widespread support . . . The decision felt rigged and there were more than a few people who didn't like either candidate.
However, there was no question that Major Smith with the more qualified and better candidate to lead the KCPD given his insider knowledge and expertise.
The bright side here is that throughout the process Maj. Smith talked about putting more officers on the street.
But those hoping for radical change are likely to be disappointed by the selection of this longtime veteran.
Still, here's a bit of congratulations from our blog community that deserves to be highlighted:
Bravo to Kansas City Police Commission.
Kansas City Police Commission has made the decision to choose a police chief from among their ranks and turned away an outsider from the college town of Norman Oklahoma, with a population of roughly the same as Colombia Missouri.
The odds were stacked against Captain Rick Smith going up against 42 applicants for this lofty post. Making his odds even more dire, was the fact that he is of the wrong skin pigment.
Fortunately for Kansas City, our Police Commission chose a man that has devoted his life, as well as the life of his entire family to fighting crime in our City. His wife is a police officer and son chose a career in law as well.
Again, Bravo to the Police Commission. They chose the more qualified, but far less "politically correct" choice. Our city, and our police force, will be better off, and safer, with his appointment.
You decide . . .
Best of luck to Major Smith. He has his work cut out for him.
ReplyDeleteHe's white so that's a plus. But he's been on the department for a while. Could be damaged goods.
ReplyDeletePut more officers on the street? Good officers or KCPD officers? There is a difference between good and KCPD.
ReplyDeleteKansas City had a chance for change and blew it.
ReplyDeleteOh well.
His smile reminds me of Mister Ed.
ReplyDeleteUh, better than that last guy's mug looking like the back end of Festus's mule!
Deleteso nothing changes. Killings will continue, same old management.
ReplyDeleteNow can we get a white school superintendent. No more affirmative action hires at the top.
ReplyDeleteIs this guy scared of all the black grifters of the East side? Can he acknowledge the massive problem black people are and not be scared of being called a racist by the "community leaders" of the East side? Because that is what it is going to take to make a significant difference in the behavior of our black population. This guy needs to go Giuliani and I don't care if he hurts the feelings of the people who are ruining this and every other city.
ReplyDeleteSly got his Yes man
ReplyDeleteNo, he most assuredly did not.
DeleteWhether your opinion is correct or not, you DO NOT go through Mr. Ed's series of promotions without some serious kissing of ass or sucking... up to? The halls of power, and the biggest ass he was sucking up to was sly-daddy himself.
DeleteThe mayor didn't even vote for him you idiot
DeleteMayor dumbass wanted the other guy and then comes on tv and says there's no bad blood because he wasn't the guy he wanted...... what a way to start your first day as chief by finding out the mayor doesn't like you or want you there
ReplyDeleteInteresting that Sly said the vote was 3-2, that tells everyone that he (Sly) was one of 2 against. He chose his words carefully when he was interviewed.....slime ball that he is
ReplyDeleteBad news for KC.
ReplyDeleteMayor probably doesn't like him.
ReplyDeleteCongrats Police Chief Rick Smith. I think he's a great choice. He's got his work cut out for him. Good luck!
ReplyDelete
ReplyDeletedidn't go for the Democrat Affirmative Action scam candidate?
RAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAACISM!!!
I am willing to give him a chance. He was by far the better candidate and his dedication to the force was the winning factor.
ReplyDelete4:53, I've seen on teevee that more black victims and black witnesses at crime scenes, and at vigils, have been increasingly
ReplyDeletecalling out their hoods' killers and crims. Hopefully, they're informing the popos of those thugs rosters--even if it's their own scammy fams. The PEOPLE of the hoods and the whole metro should have the rights and responsibility to protect themselves. Police, prosecutors, and the black robes on the benches MUST do their part to toughen up on lowlifes. Fukabuncha wasted big spending for a new airport, pay for play hotel, silly streetcar and such. Killa City could create those needed jobs building yuuuuge new jails, fixing roads, bulldozing blight, sewer repairs, added police patrols, and MORE.
Rudy! Rudy! Rudy! Since KC has a love affair with NYC, let's get "Guilianized", and KICK CRIMS' ASSES!
The police know who the thugs are. That isn't the problem. The problem is they are too chickenshit to do anything about it and the average thus with a horrible KC public school education is way smarter than most if not all cops. Then add Jean Petersucker Baker to the equation and that is why crime is so high. The thugs have zero fear of consequences.

ReplyDeleteKC finally realizes ... Black Lies Matter.
Congrats Chief Smith!
Arm yourself. Expect delays when facing an emergency.
ReplyDeleteNow taking bets.
And.
ReplyDeleteNothing.
Changes.
If Slyme doesn't like him, he's definitely the best choice. Good luck to Capt. Smith.
ReplyDeleteNever trust a guy with a smile like Mr. Ed.
ReplyDelete9:35, oops, ya got some typos there. It's never trust a guy with a bullhorn, wearing a bowtie.
ReplyDeleteSame old crap nothing changes in KC.
ReplyDeleteThe black chief from Oklahoma was interviewed on the news and he's whining his ass off because he didn't get the job, obviously mayor sLIE had told him that because capt. smith won that killa city won't change and he was the only guy that could do it, man I really thought this guy was gonna cry! But it just goes to show you how much bully bullhorn hates white people. Racist much Mayor slimeball?
ReplyDeleteIf they were really looking for a chief they would have been interviewing for chief and not chief BOY. There are scores of solid candidates across the country that were never even contacted or aware that KC was looking. The fix was in from the get-go. Typical Kansas Shitty dog and pony show.
ReplyDeleteHe's not my Chief (Thank God)
ReplyDeleteLet the protests begin. Hope this new chief does the job and can get more cops on the street to try to get crime back under control..or make an attempt at it.
ReplyDeleteTime will tell how well this fellow does the job.
