Dr. Ernest Evans: KCMO Crime Update
The two highest twelve month periods for homicide in KCMO were calendar years 1992 (152 homicides) and calendar year 1993 (153 homicides). In the twelve month period July 1, 2016--June 30, 2017 we have had 148 homicides in KCMO--making this the third highest twelve month period for homicides in the city's history.
The city political class continues to insist that the high crime rate in the city is due to lack of adequate gun laws in Kansas and Missouri, residential segregation in KCMO, problems with the schools, etc. All of these problems were just as severe back in the first six months of 2014--when we had far fewer homicides than today. (69 homicides in the first six months of 2017 vs. 36 homicides in the first six months of 2014.)
No, the surge in violence in KCMO (and in most cities around the nation) since the summer of 2014 is due to mishandling by most of the political class of tragedies like the death of Michael Brown in Ferguson, Missouri on August 9. 2014. The "Ferguson Effect" has demoralized police departments all over the country, and has led to a serious shortage of cops on the beat. You cannot fight crime with a demoralized and under strength police department.
What we as a city and as a nation must do is something that people do not like to do these days: Compromise. There has to be an agreement on a reasonable, fair-minded compromise on the issue of police relations with the black community of KCMO: That on the one hand police officers who break the law are punished for their actions, but that all officers charged with breaking the law are given due process and fair media coverage--that they are not tried in the media and on the streets. The survival of our city as we know it hangs in the balance, we must take action to bring crime under control.

DeleteRecently read a report that says KCPD levels of offices on the street are at a 10 year low. Why? I understand complaints about the police budget but we need to make sure those resources are going directly to fight crime.

ReplyDeleteI am dead, in a Black On White Hate Crime that happened just a short time ago, but no one remembers. I am one of the literally thousands and thousands of dead white people killed by blacks in hate crimes every year, that no media outlet will cover. Here in KC, there are a around dozen black on white hate crimes every year.
Dr Evans, I wish more people (especially the MSM) would hear you and heed you. Our murder rate is a tragedy, and it does affect Leawood housewives or Overland Park professionals. It affects law abiding, good citizens who deserve better. Most of the fearful people stay home, go to bed early, don't go out much. It is really very sad and should be unnecessary. The police are "too busy". The prosecutor has better things to do. The jail is full and is total chaos anyway. Where does it end?

It will continue because urban living everywhere has the same problem: too many people living in an antiquated idea of large cities. The last one hundred years have built large cities that didn't excist before
Now the cycle is moving back out of cities and along with it all economic activity leaving behind a lot of people that frankly, are being ignored
City mayors spend more time trying bring business back and mortgaging the future, but to no avail
Nobody wants to live in cities anymore
The more violence reported, just solidifies that decision

ReplyDeleteIf you are a white American, over the course of your lifetime the federal government will, on average and on your behalf, transfer $384,109 of your wealth and income to a single black individual.
According to the data derived from the 2014 federal budget, the average annual net tax/benefit broke down as follows:
White: -$2,795
Black: +$10,016
Over the course of an average 79-year lifespan, a white individual contributes a net $220,805 to the system, whereas over the course of an average 75-year lifespan, a black individual receives a net $751,200. However, since there are 4.6 times more whites than blacks in the USA, the black share has to be divided among the various contributors to sort out a one-to-one comparison.
So, the net cost to the average White American of the average Black American is $384,109. Married? That's $768,218. Got 2 kids? That's $1,536,436. 4 kids? Now we're talking $2,304,654 lifetime.
Diversity is expensive. Now you understand why you won't have much of an inheritance to leave to your children. Do you really think it's worth it? And then, those natural conservatives to the south, the Hispanics, will surely improve the situation, right? After all, immigration helps the economy! Well, not so much.

Needless to say, the ongoing demographic change from a predominantly white society to a less productive, less white one can be expected to have even more serious negative effects on the long-term economic prospects of the United States that it already has.
