Authorities are investigating an aggravated assault that occurred near the University of Missouri-Kansas City after a woman told Kansas City police a person she knows shot at her. The woman told police a person in a silver 2000-2003 Pontiac Grand Am pulled beside her vehicle and fired a pistol at her about 9:15 p.m.

SAN DIEGO (AP) - Pinch-hitter Matt Szczur's home run couldn't have come at a better time for Jhoulys Chacin and the San Diego Padres. Szczur hit a go-ahead home run in the seventh inning while batting for Chacin and the Padres beat the Kansas City Royals 6-3 on Friday night to snap a five-game losing streak.
