Why Can't Kansas City Solve Its Violent Crime Problem?
Kansas City has tried just about everything to reduce crime - more cops, more money and even a mayor-appointed task force - but the rate of violent crime continues to climb. So where do we go from here? Today, we hear from community leaders and listeners about how Kansas City should approach this growing issue.

ReplyDeleteFind someone who has the guts to point out that the great majority of murders in KCMO take place in about a sixty square block area east of Troost.
ReplyDeleteFocus police resources in the area of greatest need.
Ignore the tired usual nonsense from the usual east side suspects, social service workers, and suburban do-gooders. There is a segment of society that needs to be taken off the streets.
Stop wasting money on ridiculous ineffective and completely unaccountable programs like Mothers in Charge, Aim4Peace, NoVa, COMBAT, and who knows what else and use the money to hire more cops.
Make every effort to engage residents in the community, but if the ususal lack of leadership and cooperation with KCPD is evident, bypass them. People are either a part of the solution or part of the problem.
Once the strategy is in place, the Police Board, Mayor, and council Public Safety Committee have to know enough about law enforcement and KCPD operations to enable them to provide serious oversight of the operation and demand accountability for results. Don't jump from program to program, never giving any effort a real chance.
Much larger cities all over the country put public safety as a much higher priority than KCMO and have much more capable and aggressive programs that provide a level of safety that residents, particularly those who live in more distressed parts of the community deserve.
There's no reason that KCMO should settle for having fully one-third the number of murders as New York City year after year.
It's a real black eye for the city and the entire region and greatly inhibits both economic growth and quality of life.
Way past time to get serious.
There has to be consequences. Hell, even a mentally ill serial killer will resist temptation if he knows he is going to get his ass waxed and suffer consequences. If you think you are going to appeal to the basic good or plain old human compassion and gain any ground you are pissing up a rope. Now show me the consequences in a country where the average murderer does less than 8 years in prison and even then the pandering idiots cry about the poor murdering victim being the victim of white privilege. How the fuck are you going to instill values in a society with that kind of mindset?

You can't solve a violent crime problem when you have children being raised who are not being taught respect or being properly disciplined.
There is no racism in crime or in dealing with crime it's people breaking the law no matter what race and who belong in jails and not being allowed out in the community.
You can't solve a violent crime problem when your city government is more concerned with raping the taxpayer for money to waste on toy train rides and along with hotels and new airports that are not needed.
The easiest way to solve a. Time is to have a motivated and skilled police department with a mayor committed to law & order. Kansas City has neither, not even close.
