There's lots of things (and people) to do this weekend but as always our blog community focuses on the alternative and we invite locals to step outside of their bubble and enjoy Kansas City Pride Fest this weekend.
Even better, read about it at CampKC - Kansas City's news source of record for the LGBT community and MUST READ for locals who want a comprehensive vantage of this town.
Also, their covers consistently KICK-ASS among ALL local publications.
Freak fest
ReplyDeleteFreak fest is right, no thanks wont find me around there.
ReplyDeleteYou'll have a gay old time!
ReplyDeleteDisgusting
ReplyDeleteAnd to think we could be a carbon copy duplicate of Seattle, without the ocean and mountains if we just compete!
ReplyDeleteIt's just too confusing for the mainstream public to comprehend and appreciate.
ReplyDelete1) The community's self-imposed label(LGBTQIA)is simply terrible from a marketing standpoint. Geez! Why did they stop at only 7 letters?
2) That magazine cover conveys several different possibilities to the heterosexual community:
Is that a man dressed as a woman? If so, why?
If that's a black woman, why is she wearing a blonde wig?
A black person holding a brick in their hand? Reinforcing urban stereotypes is not a positive message.
3) What is the origin of the name CAMP? Heterosexuals don't know if that has a hidden meaning.
I think the point of this post was to get people thinking. 10:04 raises some good issues. Glad that kc can still talk about real things without getting crazy.
DeleteCamp = Fabulous.
ReplyDeleteWhy do gay people feel it is necessary to tell everyone they are gay? When the whole world already knows.
ReplyDeletelet's be real. Pride fest is for gays it's also for fat, young white women who love to dance! Why is that?

ReplyDeleteAs a gay guy, I can tell you that not all of us are into "pride." I'm comfortable with who I am, but don't feel the need to flaunt or broadcast my sexuality. Being gay is not what defines me.
ReplyDeleteJust like bringing Castro Street here from San Francisco for the weekend.
