The Mayor delivering the airport to his corporate pals just a got a bit harder thanks to a new effort underway.
To wit . . .
TAKE A LOOK AT ANOTHER NEW AIRPORT BIDDER THAT MAKES THE BURNS & MAC SCHEME LOOK EVEN MORE CORRUPT!!!
Here's the intro . . .
Dear Honorable Mayor James, City Manager Schulte and City Council Members of Kansas City Missouri:
AECOM is an $18B global leader in fully-integrated project delivery for some of the largest infrastructure developments in the world including major airport projects. AECOM’s aviation portfolio includes services to the largest hub airports in the nation, most notably JFK, LAX, DIA, PHX, PHL, ATL, BWI, BOS, ORD and many others.
With the capabilities and experience to design, build, finance, operate, and maintain a replacement terminal for KCI airport, AECOM presents an interested, serious competitive option as you contemplate procurement next steps.
We would welcome the opportunity to discuss further with you and to participate in a competitive process. Please let me know if you would like to schedule a time to meet . . .
Best Regards
Mike Handelman, AIA, NCARB, LEED AP
Sr. Vice President
AECOM

CHECK MORE DEETS IN THIS MEMO SEEN ONLY ON TKC RIGHT NOW!!!
This is a good thing for a lot of reasons but mostly because it offers a moment of pause for new airport enthusiasts and a realization that Mayor's Sly plan was completely corrupt and needs to be shot down and started over.
You decide . . .
Where is the voter input on all of this?
ReplyDeleteIf we are going to vote on an option in November, we need to consider all of the bids.
It would be simpler if we weren't going with just one plan and had a better process to judge all of the options.
What's the rush?
Johnson County will steal our airport. It will get up and walk out if we don't do something next month!
ReplyDeleteGod Bless America!!!!! Someone else wants to bid on the airport! Bring on the competition!!!! I bet Mayor slimeball had a f-ing stroke today! This
ReplyDeleteIt would be about the same distance to drive for me so let joco have the damn thing so mayor bullhorn doesn't get his payday! Plus it serves his azz right for being a bitch about the whole thing
ReplyDeleteI'd be happy if it wasn't another corporation throwing their hats into the ring, chances are its probably Burned by McDonalds sister company
ReplyDeleteFuck Burns & McDouche. Sly is available to the highest bidder
ReplyDeleteJames probably crapped his pants today. I don't think joco wants an airport. James can't line his stupid pockets they should get several bids
ReplyDeleteMayor douchebag did more than crap his pants! LMFAO!!!! You're right about joco they have enough traffic problems now just imagine adding all that airport traffic
ReplyDeleteWhat happened to the Crawford Architect design? If you look it up, the plan is very workable, although the paid consultant told the city the airlines didn't like it. Whaaaaat????? The airlines don't get to decide how to spend OUR tax money. We should have all plans, including Crawford's, to consider. I guess Crawford didn't have enough fat envelopes ready to place on desks at City Hall.
ReplyDeleteHooray for competitive free enterprise!
ReplyDeleteThis is why USA is number one.
Now it's time to have an expert, independent panel to go through a rigorous process.
ReplyDeleteThe outside lawyers won't be able to recommend a crony deal now. No detailed due diligence on key aspects of the crony deal has been done.
So, it's wide open baby!
Sly is no Pendergast, try as he might.
ReplyDeletePlease drop the Johnson County red herring. It's baloney.
ReplyDeleteJohnson County has too many NIMBY suburbanites to ever welcome a commercial airport. It would never happen.
So it shouldn't be used to try to trick poor KCMO in some cynical border war tactic.
Very true. Especially in an era when airlines have become Greyhounds in the sky, full of the great unwashed.
DeleteSave KCI!
ReplyDeleteAlso,,,,,,
ReplyDeleteI think I will be taking over KCMO Mayor SLY's Job, since the citizens are FED UP with this Degenerate Corrupt Commie Liberal Jack Ass former Ambulance chasing Attorney !!!!
So, effective immediately,,,, SLY JAMES & company, your FIRED !!!
Effective Monday i'll be taking over your office at city hall, and trust me, when I show up, you do NOT wanna be there !
Ohh ya no citizen vote or recall needed, just like how SLY James works his phony votes & elections,,,,
hows it feel now Flyin' Sly ?????
what goes around comes around, ya little commie Socialist Degenerate prick !!!
Pack yo' Bags, commie, your outta there !!!!!
Isn't HNTB a designer of airports, too? Who else?
ReplyDeleteKCMO should hear from all of them on a rigorous, serious basis.
Say no to crony, backroom deals for a billion dollar project!
If a sleazy deal is presented to voters, it's even more likely to lose.
ReplyDeleteFrom the expensive desk of Mayor Sly James, who insisted on remodeling the Mayor's office and expanding his city staff after winning election with an extremely low voter turnout.
ReplyDeleteRE: Mike Handelman, Sr. Vice President AECOM
Airport terminal bid request
Dear Mike,
I've checked my records of campaign contributors, and don't find your name present. As you know, Burns and McDonnell is one of my most generous ongoing benefactors. As such, I've already given them assurances that I will once again richly reward them for their patronage.
Please recall that I've already delivered a KCMO city-financed headquarters expansion for Burns and McDonnell, despite the fact that very few of their employees, and none of their board of directors, reside within KCMO.
Additionally, if you read the MOU and accompanying term sheet, you should understand that your firm and all others will be completely forbidden from competing on airport projects (not just the terminal) for the next 30-35 years or longer as defined in the terms.
Thanks for nothing, loser!
Insincerely yours,
Sylvester "Sly" James, Mayor of Pay-To-Play KCMO
yes, hntb's web site shows beautiful airport work at big name airports.
ReplyDeleteCleaver II is a better name for the new airport than MacCaskill International because her name is too hard to spell correctly.
ReplyDeleteAlso, she'll likely be out of office before completion.
Something like Thomas Hart Benton Regional Airport would be neat but there might not be enough support.
Pendergast International would be the only suitable name if the crony deal goes through.
One has to wonder if the letter isn't an opening first move in a path to a lawsuit to require a bidding process.
ReplyDeleteJolie Justice is a human Paraquat.
ReplyDelete8:32 Well Done.
ReplyDeleteJust another effort by Sly and the gang to circumvent the public will. The people have said no in everyway possible, but no Sly wants some kind of legacy. This is exactly what happened with the water department and with the Sprint build. When oh when will Kansas City ever act in the betterment of it's people and not bend to self gain by the politicians!
ReplyDeleteShame on you Sly!!!!
Having lived in JoCo for a number of years, there are minimal places where it would be viable. The Southwestern corner is taken up with the intermodal, I doubt the remaining property Owner's would take in an airport as well (though I'm sure Edgerton has more money than they know what to do with). Central South JoCo? Are you kidding, that's where those mcmansions are popping up in earnest, no way in heck would they allow the noise pollution that would come with an airport, and they "should" have the clout to prevent it. SE corner? Lot's of hills and valleys but hardly any access by way of large highway/interstate system. That would place it in the developed areas, where the costs alone would make it not viable. It is just a pie in the sky scheme.
ReplyDeleteBurns & Mac, Americo, SWA, the Attorneys & the City (Sly & Troy) have been working on this for months. I like how Sly said it just came up. He didn't want to move without Southwest being onboard & didn't want it to go for a vote. Perhaps the KC Star should dig a bit deeper into why the businesses want a piece of the taxpayers' money (return on investment), and how much the City awards B & M per year. If they want the airport, then have them barred from all other City bidding for 30 years. Will Americo be moving their hangar up there from Wheeler? The whole thing is corrupt.
