TKC MONDAY QUESTION: IS IT TIME TO RENAME LEE'S SUMMIT JUST IN CASE?!?!

There's a politically correct rumor that pretends Lee's Summit is named after Pleasant Lea in an old school snail mail mistake . . . But the reality is that the town is ACTUALLY named Confederate General Robert E. Lee.

Let's not debate the cultural history of what could be one of the worst strip-mall enclaves in Missouri.

Instead . . .

Given that Confederate monuments are coming down across the nation . . .

IS IT TIME TO RENAME LEE'S SUMMIT AND FORSAKE CONFEDERACY TRIBUTE OF THIS NASTY LOCAL TOWN?!?!

Changing the name back to Big Ceder would actually be kinda cool and much more inviting than this secretive tribute . . . The only thing locals have to lose is a few mentions in the Beverly Hillbillies and a whole lot of underlying racism amid shifting demographics and more crime.

You decide . . .

Let's not forget that evil racist, Andrew Jackson. We'd need to rename the county and melt down his statue. Put Obama on the $20 bill...

I call for the renaming of McGee Street and James A. Reed Road, as well as Crisp Avenue in Independence. Change them to Tillman Road, Billikopf Boulevard, and Peacock Avenue, respectively. Correct these undeserved legacies!

Different Lee.

10:01 Wrong.

It is definitely Robert E. Lee.

I remember my great grandfather telling me about it when I was a kid in the 50's.

O.K. then let's rename Liberty also.

And then we'll have to remove offensive phrases from our language. Such as "generally speaking."

Byron got rear ended on Johnson Drive. Then after that he got in a wreck

Does anybody really believe the post master mistake? That's clan talk. It's named for Robert E. Lee. Shame on all of those who deny the reality.

All the parks Forest Park are named after Bedford Forrest though he never touched foot out here.

What about Todd George (Lee's Summit honors his name as well) is it the Confederate Guerrilla fighter who rode with Quantrill or the leader of the KKK about 50 years later.

We need change in Lee's Summit. This is a good place to start.

This is ridiculous - where would it stop? Read 1984 - do we really want to rewrite history?

It's about as ridiculous as a car load of queers getting pulled over for doing a 69 in a 55.

Oh Dear God...Do I have to say it again? "Those who don't know history are doomed to repeat it." There, I said it. https://itunes.apple.com/us/podcast/the-rob-carson-show/id1224165493?mt=2
