IS KU MED CENTER OVERBUILDING KILLING KANSAS CITY W. 39 STREET?!?!

Parking lot blight earned a bit of celebration and, to be fair, it should ease neighborhood traffic just a bit . . .

KU Med Center brags: "A grand opening for parking garage 5 will be held on June 1 from 3 to 5 p.m. Join us to celebrate the 2,069 new parking spaces!"

But the bigger question along this booming stretch of State Line is this:

ARE SMALL BIZ AND NEIGHBORHOODS SUFFERING AMID ENDLESS KU MED CENTER EXPANSION?!?!?

Countless homes have been bulldozed and the hospital complex is a bit of a spaceship where denizens can remain inside throughout the day without visiting nearby biz . . . Meanwhile, crime in this part of town is rising and neighbors often complain of the worsening view of a sarcophagus-like buildings constantly under Construction.

Is this Rock Chalk progress OR uncheck Kansas-side blight impacting Kansas City, MO????

You decide . . .

  1. this is the creation of a new urban neighborhood that is, hopefully, just beginning.

it will be dynamic, exciting, walkable, and iffer loads of opportunities.

yes, it's sad that the old areas are being eliminated, but not that sad. what will replace it will be much better.

ku med is awesome and great for kansas city.

  2. Not likely!! KU Med is a gross overbuild that will just require more parking garages for the wage slaves that come from Lenexa and Olathe.

And , when RyanCare gets passed, half the KU Med employees will be laid off, and the hospital will go bankrupt!!

    1. What was ugly was the blight that characterized this crime-ridden area in the 80s and 90s. KU Hospital is one of the top 50 in the country. This is a no-brainer.
