BikeWalkKC Rages For Better Kansas City Streets But Will That Help Distracted People Looking At Their Smartphones?!?!



The self-righteous indignation in this local blogger post offers an interesting perspective but but ignores the fact that witnesses as the scene report the poor lady walked into traffic distracted by her smartphone . . . And then met with a tragic fate.

"But let’s start with the simplest solution first: the design of our streets must reflect our value of human life. There are numerous, proven countermeasures that would have lessened the severity of this crash or perhaps prevented it entirely. But with no clear policy objectives to guide transportation decisions, KCMO has been very slow to implement these.

"The city is full of brilliant engineers, planners, and designers equipped with the tools and know-how to implement safer street design . . ."

And so . . .

IS THIS KANSAS CITY URBAN PLANNER EXPLOITING A TRAGEDY FOR POLITICAL GAIN OR VOICING A LEGITIMATE COMPLAINT ABOUT DANGEROUS LOCAL STREETS?!?!

Either way, we advise locals to be careful and put down their smartphones in traffic.
