A bit of dead tree media speculation and what's probably just another effort to avoid a public vote on a new single-terminal . . .
Privatize KCI? The question doesn't die
Some suggest Kansas City should consider selling or leasing the airport, a call that coincides with President Donald Trump's insistence on a major infrastructure spending plan that contemplates private funding. But KCI's past flirtations with privatization haven't panned out, and city leaders say it's not on the table right now.
Here's a novel concept. Take care of what you have.
ReplyDeleteThey are planning to privatize parking enforcement downtown inside the streetcar TDD.
ReplyDeleteFirst things first!
save kci but, please, update it a little. it would be so easy and cheap compared with a two billion dollar boondoggle.
ReplyDeleteI agree with updating what needs to be updated. More restrooms inside the secured area, for one thing. If the City would imagine that they only have so many dollars to spend on this project, they would be able to think of a way without spending a gazillion dollars.
ReplyDeleteWrite me a check for $75,000,000.00 and get the fuck out of the way. It's a Kitchen and Bath remodel, just a bigger. TKC has my IP Address.
ReplyDeleteMore small town local-yocale thinking. They "updated" that dump about 10 years ago with no real improvement i.e. food and bathrooms inside security. It's NOT that convenient- you ever try parking in terminal B on a weekday morning? There have been independent (you know the ones where they don't care either way about the outcome but present only factual findings) studies PROVING it's cheaper to graze the place and start from scratch as opposed to "updating"! But yes, let's please save that dump!
ReplyDeleteSell it NOW. Let some millionaire make all the changes. Let the airline own it. Deed it over to Kansas. But first follow the FEDERAL LAW and take care of the Graveyards that are on the property. You can tell what a country is really like by the manner in which they treat the dead. Kansas City has a BAD reputation in relation to taking care of FEDERAL MANDATES to take care of it's cemeteries.
ReplyDeleteThe city can't run a water dept. That is essentially privatized, an "enterprise dept". What makes them think they can pawn off the airport too. Lets start by firing every one and starting over. This includes the Mayor and all his staff. AUDIT TOO! Show me some maintenance records.
ReplyDeletemaintenance records.? We don't need NO records.
