KANSAS CITY POLITICAL SLAP FIGHT!!! MAYOR SLY FANBOY APPOINTEE BRIAN NOLAND ACCUSES COUNCIL OF TAKING BRIBES AMID QUINTON LUCAS CORPORATE INCENTIVE CRACKDOWN ORDINANCE!!!

For the past couple of months that Biz Journal has been more of a mailer for boring corporate news . . . Thankfully, reporting an e-mail fight they started has spiced things up in terms of economic development.

Checkit:

KC Biz Journal: Councilman, economic development official clash over KC incentive cap

Now . . .

What we like here is that THERE IS NO GOOD GUY IN THIS STORY . . . Mr. Noland champions corporate welfare whilst Council dude Lucas is obviously running for Mayor already.

The punchline here is that any consultant worth their salt can suggest an emergency ordinance and work around this measure with little problem.

Anyhoo . . . Here's the fun part . . .

"Noland’s email turns up the heat, claiming that “this ordinance was developed behind the backs of the agencies it seeks to change, introduced as a bribe to the initiative petitioners for political gain.”

"He said it was sad that “fake news” has been propagated that is contrary to “the real impact of the use of incentives in this city.”

“Those lies, and this bribe,” Noland concluded, “have now created a city policy that is hurting our city’s bottom line and long-term development prospects. Sadly, it is always the workers on these jobs that are hurt first, and worst. Fewer city construction projects means fewer city construction jobs."

The cool and calculating response from Councilman Lucas

“I find Mr. Noland’s personal attacks on my colleagues to be beneath him and unhelpful to the important relationship between mayoral-appointed economic development agencies and the City Council. Mr. Noland’s invective does nothing to help economic development or business growth in Kansas City.”

Again, read the Biz Journal article in private mode to avoid their paywall for the whole story . . .

But more important than economic chatter . . .

THE MAYOR SLY MACHINE IS CLEARLY FEELING PRESSURE IF THEY'RE WILLING TO ENGAGE IN E-MAIL FIGHTS WITH REPORTERS AND COUNCIL!!!

Again, a lot of this is simply promo for all of the personalities involved because the incentive crackdown ordinance is mostly just for show . . . Which is a fact of life that most insiders realize but mainstream media refuse to share with readers. Natch.

You decide . . .

  1. Duh. Council takes bribes. That's a fact. Now, if only we had someone to prosecute those crimes. We will shortly at the federal prosecutors office.

  2. Noland is a partner with Sly's son Malik. James & Noland, LLC

I wonder if they do any fraud and corruption work.

  3. Noland is just another Ambulance Chaser, just like Sly, who knows nothing about development!!

Sly must go, before he gives the entire City away!

  4. I don't think they investigate that kind of stuff.

    Obviously

  5. Brian Noland of Kansas City is a lawyer and civic activist who has worked in political campaigns for Mayor Sly James and President Barack Obama.

    Any other questions?

  6. Noland claims to be a champion of the poor and disenfranchised yet he's defending the outrageous tax incentives and giveaways to developers?

    Whats wrong with this picture?

  9. Noland wants to give away more of our hard earned tax dollars to developers. When there is no money to pay for police how will we stop Sly's murder spike!!

    What a D-Bag!

  10. Police can't stop the murders that only jobs can.

  11. Have you met Malik he is anything but what his name implies. Noland and he belong together they have the same mental hurdle to overcome, maybe they can help each other.

  12. Noland, how's Burke's Hotel Folly going? Talk about bribes! The PIEA has given Burke every conceivable tax subsidy, and then some, including tens of $millions from the City General Fund. Where's the hotel?

  13. It's both awe inspiring and heartbreaking to see all the architectural wonders this city used to have in its core. Most were torn down for parking lots. All were built without TIFs. Lucas did nothing to stop the latest demolition of our architecture history by KCU. He's glib and well spoken enough to sound good while saying nothing.

  14. KCMO is regularly listed as the fifth worst run city in the country.
With people like these two involved in city decision-making, it looks like they're going to move up on the list.
    Go for it!
    We're number one!
    Amateurville on the plains.

  15. Funny I thought Noland was Lucas and Lucas was Noland. There's the real story. Switched at birth, if you will. Lol
