TKC BREAKING AND EXCLUSIVE NEWS!!! KANSAS CITY INSIDERS DISCLOSE TRUST ISSUES WITH MAYOR SLY'S TRACK RECORD AMID $800 MILLION GO BOND CAMPAIGN!!!

Kansas City is soon to decide on a massive level of debt for a slate of projects that are heretofore mostly undefined.

The campaign and political effort to earn voter approval of general obligation bonds FAILS to provide any specifics and mostly focuses on vague talk of "momentum" and "progress" when locals would be happier with a simple list of stuff that City Hall plans to fix.

Accordingly . . .

THIS THIS EPIC BREAKDOWN OF THE KANSAS CITY GO BOND CAMPAIGN . . . KICK-ASS INSIDERS USE FACTS, FIGURES AND THE MAYOR'S TRACK RECORD TO DEMONSTRATE DESERVED SKEPTICISM AMID THIS EPIC FINANCIAL ASK!!!

Here's the word that should have voters holding on to their wallets. Checkit:

"Trust me"

That's what Sly James is asking us to do with the $800,000,000 bond issue. This is IDENTICAL to giving the our mayor a credit card with a $800-million limit. He can, with one swipe, borrow the entire amount. If he does, a $200,000 home would be hit with a bill immediately for $339. Your $35,000 car would be an extra 104 bucks each and every year.

But Sly tells his subjects to "trust-me, I'll only borrow $40,000,000 the first year" and it will only cost the same $200,000 homeowner $12.

"Trust me" he tells us, "Don't read the fine print and, trust me, there's no need to do the math"

And so, while I'm all in favor of trusting our fearless leader, I'm taking the Reagan-Soviet Union approach of "Trust, but verify".

...and a funny thing happened on the way to the FACTS.

The numbers were wrong. Using the city's interest rates and projections, the tax impact on the $200,000 home (and auto) won't be $12 (insert shocking gasp here) but will be 84% higher in the first year.

Oh.. and the fine print tells us that the city will borrow "$40 million in General Obligation bonds each year for 20 years."

What that means, other than the obvious, is that year-one's' tax increase, the one that's their trying to sell that is actually 84% higher than the $12 their selling, will DOUBLE year two...and they've promised and increase it EVERY year there after for 20 YEARS !.

Now if our mayor and his his henchmen can be trusted with something, its that we can be confident they'll do EXACTLY what they want and not what voters want.

Remember when we serfs voted to NOT expand Sly's Vanity Express (streetcar) ?

More than 2/3rd of the voters told the mayor to but the brakes on any expansion. Did he stop? Of course not, he just went on spending. Here is what Sly said the day after his rejection at the ballot box as reported in the KC Star (8/4/2014):

“We’re not going to let the starter line be the end of the line for this thing,” he said. “It’s ridiculous to think that.”

What's really ridiculous is to think our ruling class thinks we'll ever trust mayor Sly James again. He's ignored the wants and needs of the over his entire term and now he's asking us to trust him with an $800-million blank check with few restrictions on how the money can be spent.

Trusting this mayor and voting YES is like giving teenagers a bottle of whiskey and car keys; nothing good can come of it.
