Great post from this local blog as luxury condos attempt to turn another historic district into a strip mall until their subsidies run out . . . How important is preserving the history and character of Westport?

There's no stopping the development, this is going on all over the country. It's close to hospitals so let's contain these rich bastards and give them buzzard beach. Historical significance is KC has always been a boomtown.
ReplyDeleteThe developers will give money to the mayor and council members. The mayor and council members will give tax breaks to the developers. They will then raise your taxes and stomp your honorable preservation efforts into the dirt. Look at the plaza.
ReplyDeleteThe City has always paid for historic surveys in other areas and provided leadership in getting the area on the National register. Why doesn't the City do this for Westport......because city leadership and politicians are in bed with developers. Corruption,
ReplyDeleteLet the niggers have it, it can't be saved.
ReplyDeleteAll these developers building this crap need to maintain their large detached homes in the less dense burbs to the highest standards. Or their home away from home in Vail. Golf club dues....the Mercedes and Porsche.. the divorce settlement payments.....
ReplyDeleteThis takes cash.
It's to late Mary Jo
ReplyDeleteYouz been screwed!
The developers don't care. They are mean, vicious, ass saving and malicious people.
ReplyDeleteIf they wanted to preserve history they should start by cleaning the thugs and boons out of Westport. Since3 that is just too damn hard for the local yokels to accomplish I'd suggest that tax payers not pump a dime into Westport
ReplyDeleteWestport has had a quarter of a century to get it's shit together. The last six years it's managed to hit rock bottom.
ReplyDeleteOnly total idiots would move into that area to live at this point.
That's what City Hall is counting on 9:24
ReplyDeleteThey and the developers will have cashed out and be long gone before the banquet of consequences begins.
Unfortunately Historic Districts may not protect anything. i.e. KCU gutting a section of the Pendleton Heights Historic District.
ReplyDeleteWeez not buldin' Weztport for youz hiztory nutz!
ReplyDeleteWeez buidlin' it for the next 100 yearz!
For da millenials! All they need iz an internetz connection!
It is good that Kansas City has a history for it certainly has no future.
ReplyDeleteThe Mare and Shitty Council are no different than Republicans for handing out corporate welfare.
So many things wrong with this idea, and not only from an architectural standpoint.
ReplyDeleteThe surrounding neighborhood associations better keep a close eye on this.
A shame Westport must now suffer under hit-and-run landlord/developers.
Why is Mary Jo so late to get on this project?
