TKC QUESTION TONIGHT: IS GAUDY GOLDEN GHETTO STAINED GLASS GOING TOO FAR???

An important question of reason and faith from our blog community tonight . . .

First a look at faithful pronouncements from a Johnson County Church . . .

Giving at Resurrection - Stewardship and generosity is a way of life. “Everything we have belongs to God, and we are simply managing those resources while here on earth. Through our tithes and offerings, we demonstrate in a tangible way our love for God and our neighbors.”

And then a reality check . . .

World’s largest stained glass window under construction at Leawood church

Accordingly . . .

IS THIS EPIC JOCO CHURCH DECORATION AN INSPIRING TRIBUTE OR A SELFISH FALSE IDOL???

We respect all those who attempt to tithe . . . I once gave a hobo some of my cheese and crackers when he couldn't stop looking at me like a lost dog as I was waiting for a downtown bus and then instantly regretted it.

Still, for the most part people can do whatever they want with their money . . . Yet inviting media in to expose what could be construed as a bit of double talk certainly deserves a bit of critical consideration.

You decide . . .

  1. If it features Mr. T. Then we're all good.

  2. How much real charity could be done with the cost of the window? Maybe I'm old-fashioned, but if you need surround sound and coffee bars to propel you to church are you really going for the right reason in the first place?

  3. What the hell happened to "You can't get into Heaven without a covered dish?"
These heathens are glorifying false gods. Therefore you can bet your boots the glass blows out during a Kansas thunderstorm. God's way of telling them to knock it off.

  4. Churches like this are always the worst. How much money is being stolen and/or wasted? How many parishioners are having affairs? These places always get corrupted. Ever catch Joel Osteen? That's a conman if I've ever seen one.

  5. It'd be fine if if looked beautiful like some of the stained glass in our oldest churches but I'd bet good money (figure of speech God) that it looks like hell.

  6. Some things are built to the glory of man... even if the intent is otherwise.

Isn't it amazing how the omnipotent deity needs so much help?

He can't do anything for himself, because he isn't real.

I don't know about other people, but when I attempted to read the Bible, I couldn't suspend my disbelief. I stopped reading when Jesus said to pray in a closet, because God only hears prayers make in secret, & that people who pray in pubic were seeking the praise of men, & that's all they will receive. But when he passed off the Prayer to Amon as "The Lord's Prayer", only changing the first line, I had enough, & couldn't read any more of that ridiculous garbage.

If there's a separation of church & state, then why aren't churches taxed?

  10. Another example of organized religion egoism. Really helps those who neeed it. Shame.

  11. Byron didn't you promise to go away if the lying bitch lost? Guess thats another lie.

  12. Its a good church, and does massive amounts of outreach to the poor in KC. Far more than any city govt thats for sure. Its a good Methodist congregation. Its worth looking into. The $ for the stain glass was privately funded.

    1. My wife and I used to attend there and that church is nothing but a building of establishing typical South Johnson county status symbols like SUV's and First down vests.

  13. It's not nicknamed Church of the Corporation for nothing.

  14. This is America. You can worship any damn thing you want. Go back to fucking Russia if you don't like that.

In my religion, we worship pictures of Donald Trump getting lap dances from his teenage daughter. And the one of him copping a feel off her while sitting on his statue of parrots fucking.

  15. The Church Of Neoliberalism stands proud and tall.

  16. good question.

but it seems to me like even if it's imperfect, which it is, at least it's an attempt to do the right thing.

one could pose the same question about the beautiful european churches, so isn't the answer the same as there?

  17. Sounds as if it is going to be as damn ugly as Prairie Fire museum.
In ten years nobody is gonna want to see it.
