SHOCK!!! SHOW-ME MISSOURI GOV. ELECT GREITENS SHOOTING DOWN PLAN FOR CITY HALL TAKEOVER OF KANSAS CITY POLICE!!!

An important bit of political push back takes hold this evening given that the most important consequence of "local control" is a clandestine move toward looting police pensions along with politically motivated posturing rather than doing anything about the horrific murder count.

Quote of the night . . .

“We’re going to maintain state control,” Greitens told newsies taking notes.

  1. He sounds a lot like Trump, I don't know if that's good or bad.

  2. Well done Governor. He knows a corrupt City when he sees it.

  3. there's a reason there's not local control.

but, if the control is at the state level, well, they need to make some changes.

What would local control of the KCMO PD look like?

It'd look like Chimpcago. Or Ookland.

  6. The KCPD under state control is one leg of the disaster that is the violence in KC. No one else in the state cares about the safety of KC citizens except for us. Surely not some guy, as nice and committed as he may be, that lives in STL & works in Jeff City. He will find he's too busy running a state to worry about all of us being shot to death in KCMO. Unless we get to Chicago like notoriety, it won't even enter the conscious of Missouri voters to begin to even care to hold him accountable come reelection time.

We need local control. Someone to answer to us who live in chaos everyday that we the people control.

  8. ^^^ Stay in Harrisonville. The big city is too scary for you and you don't have much money. Enjoy the trailer and turn up the electric heater while watching fox news. Maybe Trump will come and keep you company.

As for control of the police.

    It already is LOCAL.

The takeover is just to make sure that corruption is never questioned.

  10. Trump mentioned Feds going in to help unFUBAR Rahm's "Shootings R Us" ChiRaq. Imagine the many decent citizens who want the safe return of their families and friends who are military deployed. Imagine the deployed far away and worried about the wicked wars in their nations' neighborhoods where their loved ones live. The patriots should be coming back to a safe and sane homeland.

Seems the cemeteries and prison cells get the spoils of those senseless gangwars in our cities' streets. Good Americans don't commit lawless violence. GREAT Americans don't stand by and let it grow.

  12. Harrisonville is not frosty enough for 12:24, who prefers the fun ambient "fireworks" in those Quality Hill streets, and the "doorcrashers" dropping by the good FD guy's Waldo crib to "borrow" a few items, or making new young "friends" in a Plaza parking garage who were so nice to help "carry" his date's heavy purse for her.

  13. @11:35pm
NO ONE on the police board lives in St Louis or works in Jeff City.
ALL the members, including the mayor, are KCMO residents.
The four members appointed by the governor have been recommended by LOCAL KCMO politicos, appointed by the governor, and approved by the state senate.
The problem isn't the system and won't be solved by changing it.
The problem is the members of the police board, just like the mayors and council members elected by the tiny minority of KCMO residents who actually vote, have little understanding or appreciation of municipal public policy, and not even much interest in it.
They also lack the competence and moral courage to provide any serious management, supervision, or accountability to the police operation.
You can design any organizational chart you want, but if you fill in the boxes with the kinds of people who you regularly trust with the governance of KCMO, the results will continue to be the same.
    Bad.
And in the case of the horrific murder rate, tragic.

    1. But one is at least the will of the people of KC and the other is the will of the people of Missouri. 6M of which do not care what happens safety wise in KCMO.

State control has made KC no more safer, the police no more effective, the board of commissioners no more accountable. They are all so insulated from the will of the people of KCMO, that the only accountability we can hope for is the small hope they may want to do their jobs. Can't use the ballot for damn sure. That is terrifying from a public safety POV.

  14. One of the members of the board knowingly and willfully violated state statute and continues to sit on the BOOC. Not a single member of that board has made a comment regarding the ethical issue. My Brooks should be replaced and charged, but neither will happen. Crime is out of control in Kansas City and the BOPC is accountable to no one. I've watched the last 3 meetings and the chief didn't show up to two of them. Unacceptable. When he was there he wasn't forced to answer any tough questions. I pay taxes, all my neighbors pay but we get no accountability for the money we pay. Just ask a city council person about crime. They all say the same thing, they don't have any control over the department. Can anyone explain how 10,000 departments across the country are locally controlled but the KCPD is the only one that gets it right? That just isn't possible.

  15. ^^^ KC is more corrupt than most cities. Handing over control to these people would spike the murder rate even higher.

  16. St. Louis already regrets their decision.

  17. When KCMO elected officials rig elections by misusing statutes like TDD, transfer funds to accounts which have nothing to do with the original purpose, subsidize any "developer" with a pulse, ignore water and sewer utilities to the point that the feds have to mandate improvements, which then send residents' bills into the stratosphere, pay no attention to street or sidewalk maintenance, and on and on, it's a bit hard to understand how anyone can hope these would be the people who would have the interest, expertise, moral courage, and management ability to provide oversight to the KCPD and hold them accountable.
It's like giving your car keys to a three year-old.
Elect some serious people instead of D-list celebrity wannabes and amateur developers and you'd have an argument.
But that hasn't happened in KCMO in a very long time and is unlikely to in the future.
    How's Mike's new taxpayer-subsidized hotel coming?

  18. Sly is starting to look like the lone Democrat in Missouri politics. After all the horse shit he has tried to pull and the back door ram-rodding I'd say he has finally shit in his Post Toasties when it comes to this local control issue. It just ain't gonna happen.

  19. Apparently, the states' and Feds' money and laws are all good given over and governing LOCAL school districts, health departments, employment opportunities, housing rights, environmental protections, national security, AND PUBLIC SAFETY.
