Tonight we're getting FIRST NEWS and confirmation that taking the stoplights out of the busiest streets in Westport was a bad idea.

KICK-ASS TKC TIPSTERS REPORT AND LOCAL BIZ CONFIRMS A TRAFFIC RUN-IN TODAY CAUSED BY STOPLIGHT REMOVAL AND ENSUING INTERSECTION CONFUSION!!!

"Today at the corner of Mill and Westport a women turned left and smashed into an elderly mail sending him to the ground and groceries into the air. He was moving into the crosswalk when she hit him.
"The 4 way stops indicated by flashing lights at the Mill/Westport and Westport/Pennsylvania corners are the city's traffic "experiment" and has no protection for pedestrians. Westport is more dangerous for people on foot now. Motorists are too concerned about when they get to go next and are not watching.
"It's a mess."

BE CAREFUL WALKING IN WESTPORT BECAUSE TURNING OFF THE STOPLIGHTS HAS PROVEN TO BE A TERRIBLE KANSAS CITY URBAN PLANNER IDEA!!!
The move might have made sense to local "transit activists" but the reality is that pedestrians now face more peril and this effort has made the party district even more dangerous.

I took SW Trafficway home 2 nights ago, and what a mistake! Traffic lights dead at 31st St and two or more intersections southbound. So sorry I chose to drive through MO on my way home! Garbage Town.

ReplyDeleteI don't get the connection between the four way stop and the accident. The same thing could as easily have happened with a stoplight. I go through those intersections pretty often, and I prefer the four way stops over the stoplights.

ReplyDeleteNow as "an experiment," two of Westport's most pedestrian-dangerous intersections have been turned into blinking-four-way-stops. Dangerous for motorists, deadly for those on foot.
Of course someone's been hit. It's a STUPID idea.
AT LEAST put a pedestrian override on the lights.
This is the work of the same City Hall douche wipes who are putting backward diagonal parking spaces all over town. These people are dangerous and should be imprisoned immediately.
