Kansas City dead tree media discovers the downward spiral of this seemingly "popular" politico that has been underway since he suffered streetcar expansion defeat and then a not so impressive reelection against some homeless guy. Even worse, as our blog community noted . . . Democratic Defeat under the leadership of Hillary Clinton offers few opportunities to move up the ladder. ReplyDeletehe seemed like a common sense guy who would cut through the bureaucracy. an unafraid marine type of image.
but he got comfortable fast and hasn't shown much commitment to common sense, git-er-done, government. he's complacent and enjoying the ride.
common sense would have begun with addressing the crime wave savaging black neighborhoods.
pretty much too late now.
Reading the article in the Star, you'd think Sly was the CEO of a development or construction company or a pom pom cheerleader for a convention bureau.
ReplyDeleteAirport terminals, streetcars, hotels, and who knows what else.
Unfortunately, he's actually the mayor and has some basic municipal responsibilities like effectively addressing the highest murder rate in decades, out-of-control water and sewer bills, long-neglected streets, and all the rest of the basics that form a solid foundation of a healthy community that's attractive for residents, businesses, and visitors, all three.
One by one the grandiose claims of all Sly's spending and debt are being shown as empty wishful thinking and promises.
Two whole years left for the chickens to come home to roost.
Maybe one of the obscure and pointless national organizations that Sly's so proud of can come up with an anti-crime approach that he can try.
Nothing much effective seen by any local ideas.
Vote NO on Sly's $800 million bond slush fund.

ReplyDeleteWrong priorities and people just aren't buying the cheerleading from the hype machine, fix the streets, don't babble about Google without specific benefits, don't prioritize airport, get the sewers done instead, don't extend the streetcar for 500 million, instead get tech firms doing autonomous to get engaged helping outperform the streetcar for a fraction of the cost, and that is really what can be done.
ReplyDeleteNow they are still trying to do the wrong things in private, instead of getting very specific with infrastructure with detailed plans that can be specifically measured, weighed and considered, with accurate costs.
I don't like Sly's POS City Manager.
