  2. These bastards need to be reigned in and if the city doesn't want to give up their cut of the crooked pie then the state legislature needs to step in and regulate.

  3. There are already wreck running laws on the books that are supposed to regulate tow companies that was enacted back in the Chuck Weber days. About figures it isn't enforced.

  4. Come on, it's the free market. Let these entrepreneurs get out there and work. Government needs to stay out of the way.

  13. This is pretty simple. First, if you're in a wreck keep your wits about you. Second, call your own tow service and negotiate a price before your car is hooked up. Last, tell anyone that just shows up without being given called, to fuck off. You want somebody reputable call Santa Fe tow in Lenexa.

  14. This has been a problem for 40 yrs and the city refuses to do anything about these guys. They'll tell you they license them and maybe, just maybe we'll take their license if they do something wrong.....unlikely as that is, but the city doesn't and won't do anything to help the citizens who get ripped off.

  15. Don't let anyone tow your vehicle to their tow storage lot. Some of the tow companies won't tell you where the tow lot storage is and then the tow company will charge large daily storage fees and in thirty days they apply for a mechanics lien and take your car if you don't pay the high storage tow lot fees. Another tow trick is to drive up on a scene and pretend like the tow company was called and hurriedly hook up the car before the original tow company can get there and so the tow company steals the tow. So when you call for a tow look at the name of the tow company and don't let anyone tow the vehicle unless it's the company u called or you'll be sorry because you'll pay possibly an outrageous tow bill for nothing. Don't let a tow company that pulls up in a pick up truck with a tow apparatus hanging out of the bed of the pickup truck touch your car. The city preferential tow isn't a bad deal at all and it's regulated so it is the best option if you don't know which tow to call. Another trick some tow company drivers use is when you call for a triple A tow the bad tow company will hear the radio traffic on a police radio and respond to he scene claiming to be a triple A tow and not be a triple A tow. So stick to the tow companies you know. The city.
Issues city authorized tow stickers on authorized tow trucks so you have to actually look at the sticker to see if it is current. Don't look at he sticker from a distance look at us close and scrutinize the sticker. If the sticker on the tow truck rear glass is out of date they are trying to pull a fast one on you. Always agree to how much your going to pay for the tow and what form of payment before the tow hooks up to your car. When the tow driver says don't worry about the price insurance will pay for it BEWARE. . When you don't know where to tow the car tow it to your home or if your insurance agent can be contacted tow your car to the insurance authorized auto body repair shop. Do not let a tow company tow your car to a private tow storage lot or you'll be sorry. Most tow truck drivers are honest. Also never allow a lock out tow driver to touch your car by attempting to slim Jim or other lock out means touch your car or they may over charge you. Always stop the tow driver as he gets out of the tow truck and demand to know how much he will charge for a door unlock / lockout because some tow companies have a minimum lock out fee if $200.00 and they won't tell you that they will jump out of the tow truck and walk hurriedly to the car unlock it in seconds and demand $200.00 because they know if hey told you how much it would cost you'd have told them no and got someone else. Pop a lock in KCMO unlocks kids locked in cars for free. Most tow truck drivers will unlock kids locked in cars for free but I have seen one tow driver out south charge $200.00 for a lock out with a kids and then I never let him come back on my scene again because he snuck up and never did a word just quickly unlocked the door and demanded payment and then fakes a sorry. I paid for it out of my pocket because I am responsible for my scene. Anyway most tow drivers are great but as usual one out of many will mess hangs up if you don't keep on your toes. You can contact city regulated services but it's best to not let anyone that is not professional and known to touch or haul you car to anywhere buy your home a insurance approved body shop or a KCMO city tow lot on 7750 Front st KCMO. 64120 .
