Even More Deets On The Kansas City $800 MILLION GO Bond City Hall Slush Fund

We want our blog community to read EVERYTHING about this upcoming tax request that'll be decided today . . . SO FAR THE ORDINANCE EXCLUDES ANY REAL DETAILS ABOUT HOW THE MONEY WILL BE SPENT.

Because there is no organized opposition and there won't be a single yard-sign against this effort, it'll probably pass without question and campaign organizers can chest-thump on public TV and pretend to be geniuses . . . Meanwhile, taxes and debt levels in Kansas City continue to skyrocket . . .

  3. More and more KCMO is home of the poor who pay little in tax and wealthy who are tax abated. Only taxpayers left are the victims.

  4. First the local tv news reports that there aren't ANY details as to how the $800 million might be prioritized or spent.
Then they ask viewers to call in an share what they think about the proposal.
Pretty much summarizes how local media holds local governments to account.
The usual suspects have been lining up at the mayor's, manager's, and council members' offices for weeks salivating over these kinds of bucks.
Stand by for the usual KCMO routine.
Clever false election campaign by the usual local "consultants" and paid for by the big players who will financially benefit.
Low turnout and no organized opposition.
$800 million more of 20-year debt.
Projects then selected by who you know and what the politicos want for themselves.
Zero oversight, management, or accountability for cost-effective results.
As predictable as the sun rising in the east.

  5. One of S'lie James' big campaign promises was "transparency". Yet no one has any idea exactly what this nearly BILLION dollars will be spent on.

I get that the city needs to be maintained. But how can you ask voters to approved a 20 year personal property tax increase for 20 years while our local government bends over backwards to hand out incentives to Hyatt, Cordish, and any other millionaire/billionaire developer/company that comes to City Hall asking for help?

That's the biggest reason why the money is needed. All the money we're diverting towards huge projects that should be privately funded.

As mentioned our local officials drop their pants and bend over to help the wealthy while working tirelessly to screw over the middle and lower class.

    KCMO at it's finest.

  6. Both Sly and Barack claimed their administrations would be transparent. As it turns out, the only transparent thing about either one was that transparent lie.

  7. $800 MILLION GO FLUSH Bond City Hall Slush Fund

.....because we spent the maintenance budget on silly tourist crap like the ToyTrain, Power and Light, and 18th-Vine.

Remember, we at City Hall are not working for residents, but for out-of-town tourists and wealthy Kansas developers. Got it?

  11. It has been a while (10 Years or so) back that KC passed a infrastructure bond /tax of $500 million to fix roads and bridges where did that money go? Not on roads or bridges. Also was passed a $500 - $800 million dollar tax to fix water lines and sewers where did that money go? My bills keep going up to pay for these improvements. Wish I could afford to get out of this shit hole town.

  12. How To Save For Retirement in KCMO

Research the different ways your employer can assist in retirement saving, such as matching 401k contributions or tripling your salary.

Marry a strapping spouse who looks like they could work well into their 80s without difficulty or complaint.
