TKC MUST SEE!!! WITNESS RARE FOOTAGE FROM INSIDE KANSAS CITY METRO NORTH DEAD MALL BEFORE DEMOLITION!!!

The development game is a dangerous business and in Kansas City the biggest promises often results in disastrous consequences.

Not so long ago Metro North remained of the top shopping destinations in Kansas City and then Zona Rosa stole most of their biz leaving nothing but an empty shell and at least half a dozen development schemes that have yet to work out. Across the greater Kansas City areas there are quite a few ghost malls but this location was one of the saddest given so many local memories of watching the indoor balloon show or visiting one of the many department stores that stayed in the location until the bitter end. Like it or not, some very smart people have tried to do something with the shopping mall site without much success so far and tonight these stark visuals provide a testament to an American economy that has fundamentally changed over the course of a generation.

Description . . .

"Seph Lawless is best known for documenting abandoned dead malls and recently captured never before seen exclusive rare video of this iconic dead mall."

  1. Great clip.

I remember they let the news go in around September but they didn't have much fun with their shoot. Like what Seph was able to do with his camera.

  2. Guess they didn't have a streetcar to save the mall. Too bad, they had a better consumer base than Downtown.

  3. Dead mall, dead economy.

Too bad that we're making the same mistake with overbuilding downtown.

  4. This is the Bannister Mall of the suburbs. It's a shame what suburbanites did to this property.

Lulz. Mall were just tax schemes to hide money. Now they use streetcars, CIDs and entertainment districts.

Metro was so much nicer than Bannister, the comparison is not apt. Greedy bankers killed this place.

  12. Metro North Mall didn't fail becasue of citizens. It failed becasue of city medding in business in order to create a special tax zone. The city commission should have been draw and quartered in public over the idiotic decision to build Zona Rosa, abuse imminent domain and destroy the best mall in the metro. The bastards at city hall knew exactly what they were doing. They saw the studies.

  13. What landfill did all this material go into?

  14. In a few years some developer will contribute a few thousand to various campaigns, hire the proper attorneys, secure huge subsidies and build a new shopping district. Then some film maker will document the tear down of Zona Rosa.
