Nope, the rate hike isn't working and U.S. dollars still buy even more Pesos.
And here's the helping hand from Prez-Elect Trump . . .
As the Peso takes a tumble, Mexican illegal aliens sending cash back home have earned more buying power from the currency exchange according to my favorite local Mexican bodega that does a lot of biz through these wire transfers . . .
The quote translated through my horrible Spanish whilst picking up supplies . . .
"The (undocumented) are sending even more money home now that Trump won. Word of the Peso's fall has spread quickly and my (wire transfer) business has benefited after the election."
Accordingly, not only illegal immigrants but the legal residents who serve this community are enjoying a cash influx from Prez-elect Trump. This fun fact is important given the recent immigration debate among middle-class white people with nearly indistinguishable political views arguing petty partisan differences.
Like it or not, Trump supporters chanting "build the wall" might only get a fence and what we notice from these folks isn't adherence to any kind of law but the instinct to exact revenge for their failed lives on brown people as they rejoice in human suffering to satisfy their own fragile egos. In much the same way, it's nice to see so many "progressives" rediscovering the plight of immigrant communities who have faced more deportations under President Obama Administration's than at any other time in U.S. history.
In the final analysis . . . The Mexicans will be fine and so much political chest thumping from both sides has very little effect on a culture and people who have endured far more (self-inflicted) hardship than anything hapless American politicos could design.
Meanwhile, the nice cash bump courtesy of mainstream media and Presidet-elect Trump is appreciated by merchants and so many undocumented on Kansas City streets.
