Here's the word . . .
"TKC, just wanted to tell you and some of the deplorable Trump supporters who read your blog that they need to control their children and teach them to keep their political vitriol at home. I've talked to teachers from around the city and what we've seen has been exceptionally troubling and it goes beyond what TV reports. Students are fighting about the outcome of this election in a manner that's far more hateful than anything most of us have seen in the course of our careers. What started with some teasing and just a few isolated incidents has really boiled over into something that really needs to be addressed by school districts.
We were told not to discuss politics before the election and that was probably a mistake.
Now, there have had really big outbursts during lunch and a growing number of after school attacks. Here is what I think is even worse, I substitute teach in an urban school district and there is a great deal of defensiveness happening. The election is giving minority students a reason to target some white students they suspect would have voted for Trump. From both sides, we've seen students unable to control themselves because they're too riled up by all of the election anger that they're probably getting at home.
Worst of all, in my school district the teachers are just as divided as the students and we can't agree with what to tell parents and students because of debating between liberal and conservative administrators. It's a mess and the only thing I've learned from all of this is that none of these politicians are going to unite our country and we have nothing to look forward to but a future of more fighting . . ."
To be fair, the President elect has spoken out about this topic . . .
