Kansas City Tiny Houses And Lower Expectations For Veterans In 2016

The reality is that military service for many Americans is often a great hardship that often goes ignored amid newspaper celebration of heartwarming homecomings or bold political statements.

This year locals championing tiny houses for Veterans earned a great deal of much deserved praise for their "small" contribution to help Vets who were off the books but still in need of help.

Still . . .

- Homeless veterans continue to endure a surprising amount of homelessness on local streets.

- The political defeat of Jason Kander and Jacob Turk remind us that military service alone does not guarantee votes.

- Like it or not, it looks like there's gonna be another war soon making more veterans with problems beyond their battlefield survival.

Still it's easy to talk about "supporting the troops" without realizing that a great many entitlement benefits which support former soldiers are now on the chopping block thanks to a public backlash led by a billionaire who is mostly concerned about cutting taxes for the rich despite his populist rhetoric.

  3. 6:41, yes very many veterans, active-duty, police, fire, skilled trades, and decent citizens (a helluva lot of us family of all the above) of every demographic didn't vote for the panderer packed in a pantsuit.

How 'bout that...Prez Trump's married to immigrant, Melania, from the former Yugoslavia. Crooked Hilly insulted the U.S. and that region's people with the stupid sniper fire lie. That's one of her fabrications and evil manipulations plenty of us remembered when we voted '08 & '16.

  4. Tony, you're going off the tracks this morning. WTF are you talking about Trump wanting to cut veteran benefits? Almost every campaign stop, he talked about doing more for vets.

  5. We are already over thanking the veterans. Since 2000 the Dept of Veterans Affairs budget has quadrupled.

  6. Todays vets didn't protect our country, but rather meddled in other countries affairs. They should be ashamed of themselves.

  7. You're a bunch of hate filled ignorant psychos. I'm a former serviceman. He's given serviceman the biggest pay raise in years just a little while ago. Make the news? No.

  8. The private endowments make this homes program available at no burden to public funds. Taxes better not be spent on sex reassignment surgeries and related therapies for military personnel.

I'm immensely proud of the Navy's mandate that NO alterations and NO special considerations will be provided for the established physical endurance requirements and all other capabilities criteria for total fitness to serve, for any serviceperson of any gender.

    In short--"Semper Fortis".
