Once again Missouri law could thwart Kansas City politicos and their despicable attempt to avoid a citywide vote on the streetcar extension.

CRITICS OF THE TOY TRAIN CELEBRATE MISSOURI AMENDMENT 4 THAT COULD THROW LOCAL SALES TAX INCREASE SCHEMES LIKE THE KANSAS CITY STREETCAR EXTENSION OFF TRACK!!!
Here's the word . . .
"Voters will have a chance to derail streetcar expansion plans in the November 8th General Election. The trolley folks’ plan is to increase sales and real estate taxes to pay for expansion. If constitutional amendment 4 passes, they will have a hard time coming up with the $$$."
What we're really talking bout here is precedent for another court fight that awaits the toy train streetcar extension because arrogant, deceitful and conniving streetcar supporters refuse to even attempt to create community consensus and would rather railroad Kansas City voters with ANOTHER crooked election.
Thankfully, it seems that once again the local money train for developers, consultants, lawyers and politicos has run into a Missouri road block in a state where anti-tax efforts usually garner a welcomed reception.

ReplyDeleteAgree with TKC, extending it might not be a bad idea but the way they are doing it should be illegal. 300 voters shouldn't be able to run up a bill worth 200 million for the rest of the city.
We will soon vote on the combat tax, the children's services act (urban youth scam), infrastructure bond issue and who knows what other taxes. This is in addition to unvoted tif giveaways, cid's everywhere, port authority tax scams, city hall emergency funding ordinances and just plain free taxpayer money gifts to grifters (baptist convention). All without any audits, justification, accountability and a big fuck you from sly and the council. Time to say no, folks.

We can barely get trash pickup and wasnt that the same excuse they used on the 1% income tax people have to pay. They need to make their mind up - all these taxes aren't being used for the same purpose and the article is misleading.
ReplyDeleteLooks like the Missouri Municipal League opposes amendment 4. Looks like a lot of cities want to expand the sales tax base. No one represents elected officials and bureaucrats better and looks to screw taxpayers more than the MML. So we have a taxpayer funded lobbying organization that spends taxpayer funds to campaign for tax increases.

ReplyDeleteYou KC freeloaders remember when the city pitch on the earnings tax was that if you didn't cram it down everyone's throat the city wold have to have higher property taxes? Well, guess what/ Now the city is going to try and raise your property taxes to support the African't Express on which they are giving away free rides and charging you for operating costs. Since I wasn't even allowed to vote on the earning tax and got screwed by you folks in KC it is a little hard for me to have sympathy, but I hope the light is coming on for a few of ya. If you don't get off your fat asses and put a stop to this shit it is only going to get worse. Anyone remember when the city functioned just fine with no sales tax whatsoever? That was back before the libtard dreamers decided they could not only take your money, but spent it on any favorite pet projects they can dream up. I can't wait to see how they bend you over on the airport deal...or Kemper...or the Negro Compex at 18th and Vine ...or the Train Station...or God knows what else.

Many people confuse correlation (things happening together or in sequence) for causation (that one thing actually causes the other to happen). Sometimes correlation is coincidental, or it may be attributable to a common cause.

Amazing that KC Star & Business Journal did not pickup on this serious flaw in expansion plans when they were publishing the press releases from the trolley folks.

ReplyDeleteAll of you are complete idiots if you think Amendment 4 actually impacts the streetcar, which is funded by local sales tax on goods, not services. Amendment 4 prevents new sales taxes on services, which is more out of fear than out of a current problem we have right now. Very few services are actually taxed.

ReplyDeleteIf the developers that are so enthused about the streetcar want to pay for it, let them. They already get free 20 year tax abatements. And if the City was smart, they'd run a streetcar line extension down the 12th Street Bridge to the West Bottoms and let all the development happen in that virtual wasteland of space. It could be a hipster's dream. We don't need a streetcar clogging up more of Main Street.
