The streetcar, horrible planning and City Manager Troy Schulte basically killed parking in the River Market District and this clip shows City Hall furiously backpedaling to find a solution given overwhelming complaints from merchants and small biz.
Just to put it in perspective . . . The River Market has survived more than 100 years but now confronts its most serious challenge given the incompetence of Mayor Sly's Administration.

ReplyDeleteThere are dozens of great farmers' markets throughout the metro every weekend. Why go through the hassle of screwing around trying to find a place to park at the River Market?
ReplyDeleteIt's popular mostly among the older set who remember those days of yesteryear when downtown KCMO was the center of the universe and everything else around was a bedroom community.
Observation: The 1950's were quite some time ago.
They need to leave the 3rd and Grand parking lot for buses alone!

ReplyDeleteCity Market is one of the few things in KC that works well and serves the public, and it provides inexpensive veggies to people who aren't well off. Leave it to the no-class grifters and ward heelers who run City Hall to totally bugger it up by turning it into a parking lot for tourists who want to ride the trolley to nowhere and back.
Lots of money for Sly's corporate pals. Wonder what's in it for Sly. Heh.

ReplyDeleteThe 200 parking spaces at 3rd and Grand will be going away once the big apartment and office building construction on that site starts early in 2017. That's 200 more cars trying to find a place to park during the day while these people ride the free streetcar to work. Those of us who actually work and live in the River Market are totally screwed.
