They're working with a skeleton crew at The Pitch but still managed to do and EXCELLENT JOB with this year's 'Best Of' Issue that's proudly being forwarded among local social media denizens.
Because nobody but retirees, hobos, manic-depressives and people too lazy to train their dogs take the time to look at the print edition . . .
Most readers don't know that this year's 'Best Of' offering from The Pitch is one of their smallest issues ever.
Don't worry, TKC doesn't fall into any of those categories, I'm painting
But I digress . . .
Long, long ago there controversy about pay-for-play Pitch write-ups which only really mattered to the obsessive-compulsive types who have been left behind by the current media epoch where EVERYTHING IS A COMMERCIAL . . . Hell, this whole blog is nothing more than a promo for day when TKC leaves it all behind to sing the blues on street corners and walk the Earth like Caine from Kung-Fu.
But I digress once again . . .
The point here is that once-a-year advertorial is an old school idea and smarter publishing outlets are now immersed in native ads, digital interstitial eye candy and outright sponsored content.
Meanwhile, we still have some affinity for the Pitch prizes just to remind Kansas City of its movers and shakers before everybody with a mobile phone became the biggest celebrity in the world.
Of course the people and places category is our fave and there's no blogger reference wherein two nobodies compete with KICK-ASS TKC BLOG COMMUNITY which is now much more active, influential and AWESOME than the people who still read the Pitch.

It seems like we're coming full circle and advertisers are looking for the next new toy. Renewal rates for advertorials are falling and there is increased competition from media companies. This puts the pressure back on publishers. I don't know if the Pitch is going to figure this out but I do notice that they've been far less controversial over the past few years and that is most certainly a result of their ad sales hurting.
We need to think about the future of media in KC and how we can continue to watchdog our city.
I like Scott, they should really try a news AND sports show to really showcase his talents. Sometimes he seems bored with some of these topics. Give him news and talk to take to and which him get an even bigger audience.
