The streetcar is touting one million riders coming up in a somewhat fake milestone that ignores much more popular transit options.

To wit . . .

AMID TOY TRAIN STREETCAR CELEBRATION, LET'S NOT FORGET THAT TROOST MAX BUS RAPID TRANSIT TOTALLY ECLIPSES TOY TRAIN NUMBERS AT LESS THAN HALF THE COST!!!

Just a bit of practical comparison . . .

- With far less promo ... Troost Max carries 8,500 riders per day compared with the inflated streetcar claim of 6k mostly on weekends.

- Troost Max covers more territory 13 miles: Downtown to Bannister and Hillcrest

- Troost Max runs on $30 million compared to over $200 MILLION and counting to fund the streetcar

- Troost Max runs faster and more efficiently than Streetcar with "service every 10 minutes all day" while streetcar riders promise only 15 minute return time on a much smaller route with constant delays.

- Troost Max includes hybrid vehicles and not outdated energy inefficient streetcars

Furthermore . . .

THE BUS ISN'T TWISTING LOCAL DEMOCRACY LIKE THE STREETCAR . . . CHECK THIS DELAYED PLAN FOR THE STREETCAR EXPANSION THAT ACTIVELY LOOKS TO CUT KANSAS CITY VOTERS OUT OF THE PROCESS . . .

Clearly the voting public really isn't part of their scheme that doesn't even calculate public support . . .

    But why does everything have to be a competition?

    The reality is that KC buses support the streetcar and vice versa. You even mentioned that riders get bus rides when the streetcar breaks down. That's the way it should be. KC is too focused on competition and overlooks that the bus can support the streetcar going forward along with new transit options!

  6. City Market now has a 3 hour parking limit. I had lunch there a week or so ago, on a weekday, and had no trouble finding a convenient parking spot.

Although I think the trolly is freaking dumb and a waste of money, it is here to stay, they are going to spend the money, they are not going t tear it down and if the citizens were going to do anything about it they seem to have missed every opportunity in the past.   20. If we were to finally build a rapid transit Light Rail to the airport, the streetcar would serve it's purpose of connecting all hotels and union station to the Light Rail. And unlike the slow streetcar, a high speed Light Rail on dedicated rail lines away from traffic would also bring people to their jobs in the northland and vice versa to downtown Kansas City. The streetcar does very little to help getting people to and from jobs. The buses do a better job of that.

  26. 10:28 AM - David Johnson used a voter suppression option never before tried in US. It was a mail-in ballot only and your ballot had to be notarized. It was not easy to vote. The last streetcar vote was at a general election and it was easily defeated.
