TRANSIT JUXTAPOSITION: KANSAS CITY CELEBRATES 1 MILLION STREETCAR RYDER MILESTONE OVER BETTER BRT OPTIONS!!!

The streetcar is touting one million riders coming up in a somewhat fake milestone that ignores much more popular transit options.

To wit . . .

AMID TOY TRAIN STREETCAR CELEBRATION, LET'S NOT FORGET THAT TROOST MAX BUS RAPID TRANSIT TOTALLY ECLIPSES TOY TRAIN NUMBERS AT LESS THAN HALF THE COST!!!

Just a bit of practical comparison . . .

- With far less promo ... Troost Max carries 8,500 riders per day compared with the inflated streetcar claim of 6k mostly on weekends.

- Troost Max covers more territory 13 miles: Downtown to Bannister and Hillcrest

- Troost Max runs on $30 million compared to over $200 MILLION and counting to fund the streetcar

- Troost Max runs faster and more efficiently than Streetcar with "service every 10 minutes all day" while streetcar riders promise only 15 minute return time on a much smaller route with constant delays.

- Troost Max includes hybrid vehicles and not outdated energy inefficient streetcars

Furthermore . . .

THE BUS ISN'T TWISTING LOCAL DEMOCRACY LIKE THE STREETCAR . . . CHECK THIS DELAYED PLAN FOR THE STREETCAR EXPANSION THAT ACTIVELY LOOKS TO CUT KANSAS CITY VOTERS OUT OF THE PROCESS . . .

Clearly the voting public really isn't part of their scheme that doesn't even calculate public support . . .

You decide . . .

I understand the Tuesday comparison.

But why does everything have to be a competition?

The reality is that KC buses support the streetcar and vice versa. You even mentioned that riders get bus rides when the streetcar breaks down. That's the way it should be. KC is too focused on competition and overlooks that the bus can support the streetcar going forward along with new transit options!

That would be great if the streetcar wasn't siphoning money away from the streetcar. Your plan forgets that these transit dollars are a zero sum game and they're being wasted on the tourist line.

The streetcar slapped me like a pimp.

I just can't forgive it!

More lies from city hall.

Nice work, Sly.

By the way: You have destroyed the City Market by giving all its parking to choo-choo riders.

Bob said...

City Market now has a 3 hour parking limit. I had lunch there a week or so ago, on a weekday, and had no trouble finding a convenient parking spot.

When you live at River Market, a 3 hour time limit prevents you from parking close to your building. Another reason hate residents hate the tourist attraction.

Does anybody believe those bogus ridership estimates?

Anonymous said...

One million riders? KCMO could use the money if those tourists were playing $5 per ride.

7:20: But do bus riders get streetcar rides when the bus breaks down?

Anonymous said...

And trolley boy will issue another ad hominem herf derf in three... two... .

So downtown workers ride the streetcar 4 blocks to lunch and back (2 trips) instead of walking. Certainly worth the 200 million.

With 65,000 visitors to Kansas City per day, the figure should be a lot higher than that.

Anonymous said...

And the proof of the "inflated streetcar claim" is where, again? Up your ass perhaps?

Because you haven't proved your tired point.

And you never will.

Anonymous said...

^^^^So true. Ridership is more like a gazillion per day. Lines now stretch as far as Wichita.

Weren't City Market residents part of the miniscule voting pool which got this debacle rolling? If so, karma 8:12?

Ought to be time to stop whining. Although I think the trolly is freaking dumb and a waste of money, it is here to stay, they are going to spend the money, they are not going t tear it down and if the citizens were going to do anything about it they seem to have missed every opportunity in the past. Get over it and move on people. Sitting on your ass complaining changes nothing.

It is all very frightening at how our voter rights are being whittled away. Trump the constitution and make up our own rules to win. Voters be damned, this is the new American way. All hail the rich. All hail corporations. Damn the poor. Let them eat shit.

10:28: Perhaps you're right about the nonstarter line, but we still have time to stop the extension(s).

If we were to finally build a rapid transit Light Rail to the airport, the streetcar would serve it's purpose of connecting all hotels and union station to the Light Rail. And unlike the slow streetcar, a high speed Light Rail on dedicated rail lines away from traffic would also bring people to their jobs in the northland and vice versa to downtown Kansas City. The streetcar does very little to help getting people to and from jobs. The buses do a better job of that.

How can Sly be removed?

Anonymous said...

Actually, maybe it was just ONE person who rode 907,673 times, but what are facts among transit aficionados and friends?
That everyone can get so worked up and have their panties in a bunch over a 2-mile streetcar just goes to show what a bush league cow town KCMO really is.
We're just like New York and Paris!
Give us all a break!

KC wouldn't make a pimple on the ass of either.

well all I know is that my bags of $$ STREETCAR MONEY $$ keep SHOWING UP DAILY to my SOLID GOLD MANSION!! And since every rider is counted 659 TIMES the $$ STREETCAR MONEY $$ is SURE to continue ROLLING IN!!!

I'd hate for you guys to think otherwise.

Anonymous said...

No, you hate for people to think. Period.

10:28 AM - David Johnson used a voter suppression option never before tried in US. It was a mail-in ballot only and your ballot had to be notarized. It was not easy to vote. The last streetcar vote was at a general election and it was easily defeated.

One million riders is an underestimate!

This thing will be YOOGE!

I have a plan!

Just don't ask questions!

This streetcar shit rulez!

Send Moar Monie!

One million, time for another tax payer trip to Spain for Sherri McIntrye and Ralph Davis.
