Once again Kansas City officials have broken their promise to curb public street shut downs for so many useless runs for the benefit of suburbanites with a limited charitable contribution.
Accordingly . . .
KANSAS CITY WESTSIDE RESIDENTS AND BIZ RAGE AGAINST THE BROADWAY BRIDGE RUN THAT'S GOING TO SHUT DOWN SUNDAY MORNING TRAFFIC!!!
Here's the word from one local merchant at the corner of 17th & Summit . . .
"We asked them to take the route on Broadway, which would've made more sense but they aren't going that . . . Instead we're going to lose all our Sunday customers AND have to start our day two hours early because of this race in order to make up for it. I'm sure we'll get some walk-in customers but nothing like our regulars who have already told us they're staying away. This really is a nightmare and I'm encouraging all of the local businesses to complain so they don't make a habit of this . . . This signed on by City Hall but they all live in the Northland or East so they don't have to deal with these constant street shut downs. I wish they would find another place to do this stuff rather than wasting so much money. Can't they just donate it all directly to the charity?"
Yes, The Broadway Bridge run is a great tradition but there is no doubt that Kansas City midtown and downtown are now inundated with a lot of good causes and growing density should encourage locals to devise more effective routes for interlopers and their events rather than hurting local small biz and neighbors.

^^^^ Not selfish, if the City and BBR would have included the community in their conversation there wouldn't have been any complaints. What resulted without out telling anybody is tomorrow morning's circle jerk.

ReplyDeleteSo why don't they use our Parks to run in Longview.Smithville Lake , Shawnee Miaaion Park just to name a few. Why does it have to be on the Streets?
ReplyDeleteThere are ½ dozen runs every weekend in the City and some of them are for a good cause. City Hall needs to raise the price of the permits a lot and maybe some of the worthy causes will find other ways to raise money. Don’t forget the worst offender, the KC Marathon, is coming up and it does not even benefit a charity

ReplyDeleteAlmost no one lives on the Westside anymore anyway. Grouchy old Coconuts from Save Our Vacant Lots bitched to the council so they could keep somewhere to park their broken down "Chebbies".
