TKC BREAKING NEWS!!! KANSAS CITY PUBLIC LIBRARY DEBUTS NEW WEBSITE AMID PROPERTY TAX INCREASE PUSH!!!
Down ballot from the Hillary Vs. Trump slap fight, Kansas City residents will be asked to to further fund the library and approve a 8-cent property tax levy increase.
Consider . . .
GIVEN HIS SUPPORT OF PUBLIC LIBRARY FUNDING and this nearby Mid-Continent Public Library tax ask. . . This one kinda puts tax fighter and KC Library Honcho Crosby Kemper III a tough spot since he's always undercutting other taxing efforts. Credit where it's due . . . This is for a good cause . . . Or is it???
A few quick Sunday thoughts about funding the Kemper Legacy with Kansas City Tax Dollars and libraries in general . . .
- The Internets and not the library is now the source for all information and time wasting.
- E-books are cheap and more convenient for casual readers and a little online searching will yield the answer to just about every question along with a variety of options to have Chinese toddlers do the homework of horrible American students.
- Should Kansas City really fund a place dedicated to helping hobos hang out all day, watch porn on the old school computers, make BM and wash their undercarriage in the sink??? Doesn't Barnes & Noble already serve that purpose for the most part???
Today's Sunday question . . .
HAS THE KANSAS CITY PUBLIC LIBRARY OUTLIVED ITS USEFULNESS IN THE AGE OF THE INTERNETS WHEREIN A MOBILE PHONE IS THE GATEWAY TO ALL THE WORLD'S INFO?!?!
We ask this question not only to possibly save Kansas City homeowners about 20 bucks a year but also to prove that the Show-Me Institute has never sent TKC a check and only a truly independent news-ish outlet would be so bold (and jerky) as to question library funding which is a sacred cow in the classic Oprah-esque sense of the term.
Nevertheless . . .
WE'RE STILL HAPPY ABOUT THE NEW LIBRARY WEb UPDATE @ KCLIBRARY.ORG MAKING ITS DEBUT FIRST HERE ON TKC WITH THIS SUNDAY LINK!!!
Even better . . . Check this nice video chronicling the transformation of the KC Public Library web presence.
From our favorite local book worms: "Ever wonder what our previous websites looked like? Take a moment to join us for a trip down memory lane, going back....waaaayyyy back. Then visit the new kclibrary.org and enjoy what we've become! Read more about the changes here . . ."
Kudos on the website update . . . Which is nice but only a sign that something needed to be fixed in the first place.
And while the rest of the world uses Google or Wolframalpha for their information needs it's nice to know that an avowed Kansas City tax fighter now becomes tax enthusiast for the benefit of freeloaders and his public identity.
You decide . . .
Why do I need this?
ReplyDeleteI have Amazon.
Johnson County Public Libraries. I don't subsidize billionaires or their charities.
ReplyDeleteThe public library is a great investment in Kansas City. We're not just talking about books but programs for public education and resources for students to meet. It's not just about books and equipment, it's about providing an essential resource to the community that can't be achieved on a browser.
ReplyDelete^^^^
ReplyDeleteSo, I guess you haven't heard of Google hangouts. Focus on new technology not old tech.
"HAS THE KANSAS CITY PUBLIC LIBRARY OUTLIVED IT'S USEFULNESS IN THE AGE OF THE INTERNETS WHEREIN A MOBILE PHONE IS THE GATEWAY TO ALL THE WORLD'S INFO?!?!"
ReplyDeletePossibly the library could be a place to learn when to use "it's" and when to use "its."
Don't be a troll. He either fixed it or used it right in the first place but you're here in the morning being a grammar Nazi. Pathetic.
ReplyDeleteNO.
ReplyDeleteNew.
Taxes.
Nice.
ReplyDeleteApparently none of you really know what's going on in Kansas City. The Kansas City Public Library isn't asking for a levy increase, the Mid-Continent Public Library is, which serves a much larger community outside of Kansas City (through the metro).
ReplyDeleteKC Library, I think is not asking for a tax increase but the Mid-Continent Library system is. Just vote NO.
ReplyDeleteIf you vote no, parents will have to start paying more for their kids to get books for grade school. Where do you think they come from now? School districts partner with libraries to get free access to books and digital content. A blind no vote is just stupid.
ReplyDeleteI look forward to voting to support the library .
ReplyDeletethe library is awesome and a community jewel, imho.
ReplyDeleteto address the loiterers, how about a $5 admission fee or free with a student id?
also, charge something for the lectures.
I will support the library. It is one of the few public insitutions that works. Much of its success is due to Crosby Kemper, to whom much praise is due.
ReplyDeleteThe bum situation is much improved from what it was when the downtown library was at 12th and McGee. They are not excluded, but they are required to maintain a minumum standard of civility.
Duz Intentubes is makin' everybody rich and productive! Allz ya needs dees daze is a computer and internetz connection!
ReplyDelete^^^^
ReplyDeleteDont forgetz ya phones. Weez got an app for all your needs and dezires.
Seriously, folks. Dissing libraries? They're probably the place where we get the best return on investment for our tax dollars. In the past couple of weeks I've read three new books (each of which was priced at more than $25) and watched a BBC series on DVD all courtesy of the library, which also provides meeting rooms for our neighborhood association and a host of other neighborhood activities.
ReplyDeleteOf course, for those who don't read, have cable TV and spend their lives watching it when they're not trolling the Internet, and don't take part in activities that involve leaving the comfort of their homes, perhaps the library isn't important. But are these people the ones we want making decisions for the rest of us?
It's the Mid-Continent Public Library that's asking for the increase, not the Kansas City Public Library.
ReplyDeleteWhat a fucking moron!!! Can't even get your rage right.

ReplyDeleteNot The Onion, but 100% true.
Time to put the bookmark in Jordan Carver's stack
ReplyDeleteHomage to caption guy:
ReplyDeleteWhile she came in looking for the Longfellow, she ended up taking home a whole lot of the Wadsworth.
Why force property owners (investors in the city) to pay for something used primarily by transient residents who are not invested in much of anything in KC? Perhaps it is time for these libraries to survive on memberships only. That way the using public either wants them or they don't and if they don't ALL those bureaucrats can move on to productive work and the tax payers can be relieves of the expense of maintaining facilities that very few really care about.
ReplyDeletePlatte County Commission refused to put the Library measure on the ballot. So much for wanting public votes on issues of the day. Scheiber is a putz.
ReplyDeleteYou don't want the give the working class access the resources to reading or they will in the wage system and cease the means of production.
ReplyDelete2:39, what Marxist bullshit that is. We have nearly 100% literacy in this country, innumerable public libraries and guess what, there has not been a proletarian revolution. Most of the educated proletariat use information to better themselves and their conditions, not to overthrow the capitalists.
ReplyDelete12:22 comment That is true comedy genius!!

There was a librarian named Jordan,
whose body of knowledge, outstanding
well-rounded in logic and diction
she turned down all suitors
who glared at her hooters
and sent them to Juvenile Fiction.
With respect, charm and good manners,
I approached this Miss Carver
and inquired about French jurisprudence
Into the deep hot stacks she did lead
discarding clothes, as we proceeded
a Minimalist approach she cooed was now needed.
Not missing a beat, I stripped down in the heat
and we both began lingua franca
she entered a plea of nolo contendere
and steeled for punishment upon her rear-ender
then she straddled my manhood as I drove the point home
when it's long overdue,
librarians need love too!
L.O.L!
DeleteKc public library is also supporting this tax.
ReplyDeleteNo need for rage, Just vote NO!
screw libraries, Vote Trump!
ReplyDelete
ReplyDeleteWho needs libraries when you can learn all you need to know from BLM.
^^^^ Ouch.
ReplyDelete3:44 is casting pearls before swine around this dump.
ReplyDeleteGreat stuff!
Nah, that was AWESOME and very much appreciated by people who read it.
ReplyDeleteBRAVO TO @3:44!!!
With all due respect, the tax increase on the ballot is for the Mid-Continent Public Library and not the Kansas City Public Library. They are two completely different systems that serve different populations and receive different funding. This tax increase will not impact KCPL. It will help MCPL dramatically. Thank you.
ReplyDeleteTheir new web page "SUCKS"
ReplyDeleteHave to agree that the website is even less useful than before.
ReplyDeleteAs for the tax. Libraries are outdated.
