It's important to talk about this town's homicide problem from all perspectives and this note offers an important take on the recent murder crisis from a customer satisfaction angle. Checkit:
Chicago is in the news nearly daily because of their atrocious number of murders. As of August, Chicago has seen 469 murders or 17.40 per 100,000 population. According to the daily newspaper's September 2 article . . .
Kansas City has 77 murders to date or 16.21 murders per 100,000. In other words, we only trail the murder capital of America by 7%.
Whatever Police Chief Forté is doing to reduce our alarming number of murders isn't working. Our approach needs to be completely reworked. The present efforts are a catastrophe.
The City is constantly throwing dollars at what they call economic development. It's a very difficult task when the risk of killing your customers seems to grow daily.

AND the crappy police response time. When the police don't arrive for ten minutes or more you know you'll likely get away from the scene.

The population of KCMO makes up less than 20% of metro residents and around 13% of those KC residents live north of the river, so it's doubtful that KCMO businesses can survive doing business with just folks who live in the city.
ReplyDeleteAnd there are thousands and thousands of other places to shop and enjoy entertainment, so most metro residents have little or no reason to subject themselves to crappy streets, out-of-date traffic signals, crime, and all the other inconveniences and outright dangers of wasting their time in KC proper.
The days of bedroom community suburbs is long long ago.
Facts can be stubborn things.
Customers??? Customers pay for things. With limited exceptions these are not people who pay for things.
