Everybody Hates The Kansas City Star

Pitch skeleton crew casts aspersions upon the skeleton crew daily newspaper duo . . . Let's call it a slap fight betwixt a dying industry that's exceptionally entertaining: The Star celebrates new two-man editorial board by waiting 17 hours to post politically ignorant recap of Trump-Clinton debate

Comments

  1. the ratio of cute comments to substantive ideas makes the cited article too difficult too dufficult to read.

  2. A city's newspaper editorialists and reporters can perform a great public service through criticism and factual reporting that's truth-oriented. Our local newspaper isn't objective nor is it rigorous. The people don't seem smart either.

  3. The Star is the Norma Desmond of Kansas City media--playing to an empty theater.

  4. Who would write an article on an editirial that wasn't read by anyone.

KC must still have too many journalists.

  5. If you read this rambling semi-vulgar article in The Pitch, please recall that it's where Liberal whiner Barb Shelly landed after she herself parachuted out of the kamikaze KC Starship before they hit her ejector seat.

Just as many TKC commenters predicted, Lewis DoBad will now be the last man standing on the Editorial Board. And when he does get the heave-ho, I fully expect he'll file a racial discrimination suit, because according to Lewis, everything revolves around an anti-black conspiracy.

That Yael was finally canned was no surprise, it's just that it was years overdue. People were shocked that someone at the Star finally found a pair of balls. For the last 2 years or so, Aboulhookah had been increasingly daring management to extinguish his incendiary rhetoric and sloppy work product. When former editor Parrish, herself perished from KC, Yael saw that no one was minding the store and kept inching further out on his Liberal Left limb. I guess Monday morning when he heard the loud snap and felt himself plummeting downward, reality finally hit.

  6. Yael wrote on his Facebook page that he got a year's severance from the Star and that his house is already paid off. So he's got one very nice year ahead of him.

  7. Star is SCREWED. They are under the leadership of a hatchet man.

  8. I can't understand why Diuguid is still at the Star. He was the absolute worst of a really bad bunch of local pundits.

  9. Like most print magazines and newspapers, the Star management completely missed the threat of the internet, particularly where the advertising revenue would go.
The Star is in a small market with little circulation expansion.
There's an endless variety of news sources online and for free.
The quality of the Star has constantly gotten worse for years, even as the subscription rates have increased.
The Star is owned by an out-of-town corporation whose only interest is that the Star line on their financial statement show black ink.
The only way the paper can stay "profitable" is to continue to lay off more expensive highly-tenured and experienced journalists and replace at least some of them with new J-school grads.
The tipping point was reached years ago and the bad and very desperate decisions continue.
    The Star is doomed.

  10. They need--and maybe they're getting it but it's not clear yet--some out-of-towners to come in brandishing iron and dig into the metro's lack of serious leadership and cronyism of mediocre players. For example, the story about not investigating crimes against children is one that should be covered and covered. More generally, the tragedy of crime in the inner city needs to be covered as a policy issue, not just daily crime reports. The present reporters seem to accept the status quo and be comfortable with it. New people are needed, serious, energetic people.

  13. Hate the Kansas City Star.

  14. Why are we talking about the Star. Fuck that rag. The sooner the ship sinks the sooner they can turn the building into lofts.

  15. The Pitch story was really, really shitty. What a bunch of liberal, I'm better than you pablum. Same kind of crap the Star writes, only with an occasionl F word thrown in to prove their cool bonafides.
