Is Organizing Striking Prisoners The Next Occupy Wall Street?
We've caught word of a nationwide/international prison strike commemorating the 45th Anniversary of the Attica Uprising after the murder of Black Activist George Jackson in the early 1970's. There's been a few bleeps here and there but now appears to be a real grass roots organizing campaign across the US, Mexico, Brazil, Scotland, Wales, UK and Greece plan work stoppages inside many prisons.
The question posted online was, "how will we know if a prison strike will have any effect"? Then a few weeks ago stock holders began dumping their prison stocks in private prisons like Correctional Corporation Of America and stocks plummeted over night?
What we do know is 7 cell blocks in 5 prisons in Texas went on strike in April of this year letting the world know the "Free Texas Movement was down". A member of the Free Alabama Movement was interviewed by Amy Goodman on Democracy Now while in Solitary Confinement this summer.
So the question is, "is prison organizing the next Occupy?"

ReplyDeleteIf all these low-information skill-less people spent more time getting an education, some training, and A JOB, and much less time marching around protesting we'd all be much better off.

ReplyDeletePrisoners are being tortured even in the Missouri Department Of Corrections. Imagine that white racist assholes would take on prison jobs, serve them rotten meat, beat them while chained to a bench, deny medical care, sell contraband, strip search female visitors and force them to work for 15 cents an hours, hang out neo nazi and KKK flags on the highways for visitors to see. All along the massive racist population that has always existed in churches and schools across the country encourage lawmakers and laud Wall Street for a dividend in evil. Well done White Pride, well done. Now you have prisoners fighting for the last chance for democracy.

ReplyDeleteI remember when that woman was attacked at the gas station and the boy was crippled. The prosecutors job is to take dangerous criminals off the streets. But we know now the authorities are only in the business of public safety and have the media present an image of safety and security for the public outside the bars of the Jackson County Jail.
