Celebrate Higher Kansas City Taxes!!!

Sadly, job creation is still stagnant and the reality is that streetcar critics have a hard time believing anything from the TDD given it was founded as a way to corrupt local Democracy. Also, all the tax collection hype still doesn't fully support the toy train as cheerleaders claim . . . Just ask neighborhoods where police officers have been cut back, services downgraded and 311 calls ignored. Like it or not and despite political spin . . . It's all coming out of the same wallet . . . YOURS. You decide: KC Business Journal on Twitter

  1. Does any business invest in KC anymore or are the tax payers paying for everything? Doesn't seem like it is worth keeping the city incorporated given what a pain in the ass KC is to everyone.

  2. Percentages are such fun numbers to play with.
If two people live in downtown KC and two more people move into their loft, downtown residents have increased 100%.
What are the actual sales tax figures and how are they being spent and by who?
    A little journalism wouldn't hurt.

  4. If they've been fudging the numbers all along, I doubt this report is valid, either. Nice try, though.

  11. The huge tax increases were caused by unusual circumstances. It has nothing to do with the streetcar especially since they began according to this report in 2014 before the streetcar was even in existence. Part of the tax reports was because of the phenomenal spending money on the day of the Royals Victory in that area with over 500,000 people spending zillons that day.

  12. I would hope tax revenues are up along the trolley route this year as opposed to the past two when road construction along and around Main was such a mess no one could get through to go to one of the businesses along the route. Those businesses were saying they hoped wouldn't go bankrupt waiting for the promise land train to come through and asking for tax abatement so and rebates. Of course tax collections are up now! We should wait an entire year and after the "new" has worn off to see what a normal ridership will be with fares before declaring a huge success. Then EVERY business and resident in KC should pay the tax because: we may have a better EPA rating and lower gas prices, we are all responsible for the bond payment. If this passes, I say we let only Royals and Chiefs fans pay for the stadiums, roads and parking lots, we put toll gates on Ward Parkway, State Line, North Oak Tfwy and elsewhere so the people who use it pay for it. And non-profit charities and churches should be exempt. The Star, while maybe a non-profit is not a charitable entity...
