VML Plans Downtown Kansas City Airport Office Space Renewal On The Cheap



Note much excitement in the docket this week except for SWEET DEAL for a local advertising firm paying pennies on the dollar to lease space at the mostly empty Downtown Airport . . .

Take a look and realize the desolate digs more than pays for itself when gazing upon all those suckers up the hill paying full price.

160609: Authorizing an eleven year Lease Agreement with VML, Inc., for office space at Charles B. Wheeler Downtown Airport.

Section 1. That the Director of Aviation is hereby authorized to enter into an approximately eleven year Lease Agreement with VML, Inc., for 97,679 square feet of office space at Charles B. Wheeler Downtown Airport. A copy of the agreement is on file in the Aviation Department.

Section 2. That the Director of Aviation is hereby authorized to pay a leasing commission to CBRE, Inc., in an amount not to exceed $700,000.00, from funds previously appropriated to Account No. 17-8300-621040-611020-B.

  1. There are plenty of empty office buildings in Downtown. If City Hall is so interested in revitalizing Downtown, why are they renting out the airport?

  3. If VML would have gotten a market rate lease in a Downtown building, would the taxpayers still have to a $700,000 leasing commission?

  4. Bunch of white guys in suits and ties. So much for the ad biz being all hip and cutting-edge and creative. These guys look like a gang of undertakers.

  8. Hope that was a triple net lease. The Downtown Airport building is even older than the ones at KCI which the City wants to tear down because they are too old to maintain.
