At the outset of this year OUR KICK-ASS BLOG COMMUNITY revealed an unprecedented rise in the number of hobos on local streets and now it seems that local social service agencies are woefully unprepared to deal with the problem.

"Inspectors said they found an excessive amount of moldy food, rusty cans of food, a significant fly infestation and the odor of rodents. They said they later found rodent feces, carcasses, live rodents and nests."
The KC Health Department managed the destruction of 63 tons worth of contaminated food.

In retrospect, more homeless calling Kansas City their home is a corollary to the so-called Downtown Renaissance as this town makes quite a bit of financial sacrifice for developers, toy trains and new hotels but can't really feed the hungry.

ReplyDeleteI used to feel sorry for these folks and it still pains me to see so many children homeless on KC streets bUT I have noticed that these homeless are getting agressive and they are responsible for more and more breading all over downtown. Yes, I think we need to make sure people aren't starving but there needs to be more efforts to police this population given their increased threats.

Let them eat cake? Before the rats get it? A nibble on the box won't hurt...just eat from the top. It's still good. Right? See that food at the food banks right? It's only poor folks begging. Rat bitten mice chomped on food, they'll eat anything. Beggars can't be choosers. If you are really hungry...you'll eat it and be grateful. It's your fault you did't try hard enough to get a decent job. Or education. We have great schools and equal opportunity for all in this great city. Eat rat shit and shut up with your bastard kids right big folks? Power is good. Greed is good?

You all should never forget that there are dozens of white men military veterans just like you who use this facility because they have been forgotten by out government. When you disparage our homeless then you also denigrate some of our bravest troops.

DeleteThey empty the jails. Halfway houses are used for so long and they have to leave. Most are not even from this state. Better benefits. More tolerance. More theft. Transcient lifestyle. Locals, regulars wouldn't do this. Don't live here don't care, catch the next bus to the next city. Look at the buses going out of town for fugitives.. Robbers got to get out of Dodge somehow cheap on the quick on the quiet....Greyhound.

8:21 great point. At the risk of posting something helpful on tkc and trying to make lemonade of a lemon, may I suggest everyone check out the Saint Michaels Veterans Center? Great work and an example of how poverty is handled when overseen by churches as opposed to governments.
