The only funny part about downtown streetcar hype is that one of our KICK-ASS TKC BLOG COMMUNITY DENIZENS sent this tidbit our way with a joke:
"Read this and try not to puke . . ."
Slate: Did an American City Finally Build a Good Streetcar?
It's typical, kinda left-leaning, pro-Hillary garbage and it's surprising what the author takes for granted without a modicum of fact checking . . .
And then there is the new streetcar route in Kansas City, which is getting 6,660 riders a day over three first three months of operation—and rising. Total ridership is 550,000 riders in just 84 days of operation. That’s an order of magnitude above its counterparts in Atlanta and Salt Lake City, and more than double ridership on the H Street Streetcar in D.C., which runs in a densely populated urban area.
Per mile, Kansas City ridership is double Phoenix’s exemplary, set-apart light rail, and on par with the Los Angeles Blue Line, one of the country’s most successful transit projects of the past few decades.
This is...surprising. Kansas City’s streetcar runs in traffic, so it can’t save riders any time over driving. It runs in a downtown whose residential population was just 20,000 at the time of the 2010 Census. And—here’s the craziest part—there are more than 12,000 off-street parking spots within one block of its route. That doesn’t count on-street parking, or parking that might be two or three block away. And there’s a lot of that too, as this map of the streetcar’s central section attests.
All that said: It’s been a runaway success.
And here's when it's time to say what everyone else is scared to mention . . .
JUST LIKE THE PHONY 24 MILLION TOURISTS PER YEAR NUMBER . . . IT'S CLEAR THAT KANSAS CITY TOY TRAIN STREETCAR STATS ARE PHONY!!!
Kansas City is known for faking numbers, Visit KC does it all the time to partake in more City Hall subsidy and even the Royals exaggerated their crowd size to make their World Series victory more impressive.
The alternative to believing this garbage is to trust these unproven and probably biased stats from people with a vested interest in making sure the street succeeds as they spam social media, MSM and just about everywhere else to show was most downtowners can see with their own eyes . . . The Streetcar is mostly just for tourists and party-goers on weekends and special occasions.
You decide . . .
somebody please tear Dave J. away from his tofu. He's got some spamming to do tonight on this blog!
ReplyDeleteThe apple is falling from a rotten tree. The outright lying about data comes down from the top. If you want to look at bold exaggeration with absolutely no basis in fact, look no further than Mayor Sly James.
ReplyDelete^^^^ Is Sly a blogger?
ReplyDelete^^^^^^^^^^^^ Worse, he's a lawyer and a politician.
ReplyDeleteI bet the mayor's of Salt Lake City, Atlanta and Washington, D.C.are calling Sly James to challenge these numbers. Like Kansas City really has more riders than Atlanta? That's really funny.
ReplyDeleteWhen was the last time the truth came out of City Hall about anything?
ReplyDeleteThe numbers are actually low. If you drive down to the streetcar at any time you will see a line stretching from Union Station to Westport Road just full of people just waiting for their chance to ride the toy choo choo.
ReplyDeleteFunny how you always say "you decide" at the end of a story where you express unmitigated bias. You're as fair and balanced as Fox News, although you get much less pussy than Roger Ailes
ReplyDeleteBut it's on the internet, so it must be true.... Wait, this blog is on the internet.
ReplyDeleteIt's all just time waster in between Trump stories, he's the only guy that's going to right the ship. Not because of anything he does but because Trump in the white house will stop everyone from pretending.
ReplyDeleteThis streetcar stuff is just one of many KCMo tricks to keep our mind of how bad our city has become and how much more crime we have to deal with.
Does KC really claim to have 24 million tourists every year?
ReplyDeleteIt was designed for tourists and clubbers
ReplyDeletePretty much sums it up.
Streetcar projects give bored bureaucrats something to do to justify their parasitic existence. They also give city governments bragging rights. “Look at our city! It’s a world-class city because we have a streetcar!”
ReplyDeleteIf the goal of planners is to jam up roads and frustrate drivers, then I guess one could argue that streetcars do indeed serve a transportation purpose.
How much was this hack writer paid off to right this piece of crap? Did he stay in one Trolley Boy's three one light apartments reserved for guests?
ReplyDelete"Just like the phony 24 million tourists per year number..." is there any evidence they're "phony" beyond you saying so?
ReplyDelete"IT'S CLEAR..." as if your premise is undeniably true?
"Kansas City is known for faking numbers, Visit KC does it all the time..." again, any evidence? Or it's just true because you say it.
Add a few unsubstantiated claims, some bitterness, some red type, exclamation points, a dash of the middle voice and presto!! It's a TKC post!!!
It's easy to rip your shit to shreds when you have nothing to back it up with.
It's probably true, saw it here as well:

^^^^^^ lol, what a waste. Not a single comment.
ReplyDeleteDave? Repost the spam. We know your mad!
ReplyDeleteDon't upset Trolley Boy
ReplyDeletehow many people were at the world series party the city said 800,000 plus, others said 230,000. so the city says 6,600 riders on streetcar, probably more like 2,000 riders.
ReplyDeleteTHANK YOU TO TKC for reporting reality!!!!
ReplyDeleteThe Slate author must have been:
A) under the influence
B) totally unfamiliar with KCMO
C) the most gullible writer ever
D) all of the above
While reporting stats like--- "Kansas City’s streetcar runs in traffic, so it can’t save riders any time over driving. It runs in a downtown whose residential population was just 20,000 at the time of the 2010 Census. And—here’s the craziest part—there are more than 12,000 off-street parking spots within one block of its route."--- the writer nonetheless swallows the poisonous Kool-Aid and states, "That’s an order of magnitude above its counterparts in Atlanta and Salt Lake City, and more than double ridership on the H Street Streetcar in D.C., which runs in a densely populated urban area."
Bad Reporting
Bad Statistics
A Bad Writer on a "bad trip"!!!
what difference does it make?
ReplyDelete$110 million and counting.
DeleteSore losers.

ReplyDeleteThe KC Streetcar practices for a "power-down" disaster!!!
The sad truth about the insecurity in Kansas City government is that the Big City wannabes will be excited about a poorly researched article in Slate magazine. Newsflash kids - the streetcar is not a New York subway nor will it ever be one.
ReplyDeleteWhat are the true numbers? Just curious. You didn't cite another source or a lower number.
ReplyDelete^^^^^^^ The "true" numbers haven't been independently verified.
ReplyDeleteHere is a more sober analysis of the numbers:
Kansas City Streetcar Failing by Its Own Standards
Looks like Slate is just in line with the rest of the Democratic party cheerleaders.
11:37: It's kind of like Donald Trump's "seeing" Muslims celebrate after 9/11. Trolley boy is "seeing" 6,660 riders per day. Common sense and random observations would render that number absurd, but common sense is not common these days in the trolley boy circle of influence.
ReplyDeleteYour naysaying is disgusting. KC gets more tourists than Paris, like City Hall says, because the terrorists have scared the tourists away from Europe. Everybody knows that. KC is much safer for visitors. Sure we have muthafuckas killing people every day, but mostly they just kill other muthafuckas.
ReplyDeleteTourist lives matter! Fountains! BBQ!
^^^^Just think how many more tourists we'd have if our fountains were actually working!
ReplyDeleteyou say streetcar, I say "parking shuttle."
ReplyDeleteStreetcar has been a disaster. Just wait till KC gets the bill.
ReplyDeletePoor little lads having trouble finishing the latest heaping helping of crow for you to eat?
ReplyDeleteLike the rest of the YOUNG naïve clueless Reporters these days, they'll print anything their their told & fed without FACT Checking anything 1st !!!
ReplyDeleteI Chewed out a YOUNG Naive News reporter this spring, for doing that on the Mayor Slys supposed lowest crime bullshit article she wrote,, and I didn't mince any words about ghow Naïve she was, and theres more to being a reporter than just printing whatever SHIT some politician feeds you !!!!
She didn't like getting her young ass chewed, and frankly, I could give a shit less if it hurt her feelings - Good !!!
I wish jihadist would blow up Kansas City. The biggest piece of shit place I have ever lived in all my life. This place needs to be wiped off the map. No one has a job, only people riding the buses and streetcar are stinking homeless people. Hell the make this place sound fancy because of streetcar and Google Fiber but all it is damn lie. I have seen better living in third world countries. Fuck Kansas City
ReplyDeleteThe "toy train" has brought great change in our family. I have a son that is blind and a husband that is hemiplegic. They look like a waliking country song but can now independently travel to take care of all of their basic needs and entertainment. We've upped our game on our tourist knowledge as we our flooded with new visitors in our neighborhood that spend money at businesses that are adding ours they are open due to this increase. We were skeptical of how this would be different and relevant but this "toy" means freedom for us and many others. I really don't get why the disproportionate anger from people that aren't using it and probably don't use any form of public transportation. There is a large segment of the population that struggles with mobility. We are not just senior citizens now. And we're not all homeless. But we are all getting a laugh at the irrelevant internet troll term of "toy train".
