Kansas City Primary Winners & Losers!!!
Given that most registered voters ignored the primary and everybody else was too busy to Pokemon Go vote . . . We're not gonna spend too much time on the local implications of the primary . . . So here are the highlights as they apply directly to the Kansas City metro . . .
Primary Winner John Rizzo Earns Biggest Kansas City Victory Of The Night!!!
EPIC strategy, mastery of resources and a lot of hard work have shown us that John Rizzo has finally come into his own as one of Kansas City's top politicos. He has faced unfair opposition from bitter rivals and ethnic bias from WASP-Y Dead Tree Media newsies . . . But the fact is that his work to unite Missouri Democrats and lead locals in Jeff City was a key component in his victory. He ran a positive campaign in the face of backstabbing from unions, unfair associations and some of the very worst politicking a Democratic Primary can offer . . . But he survived it all and now looks forward to a bright career as a major force in Missouri politics.
Rep. John Rizzo is his own man, yet another election victory proves his political acumen, talent and hard work against mostly stubborn and unreasonable resistance.
JoCo Rejects Gov. Brownback
The Kansas City Star sacrificed their circulation and subscription base to make this happen and it doesn't quite seem worth it but there is no denying that a swing to the center for Kansas is a notable metro development . . .
Show-Me TKC Splitting The Difference On Latino Defeat!!!
Manny losing to some old white broad by 20 votes was a disappointment but not a surprise . . . Still, he ran a great, clean race while Ingrid Burnett declared herself a mortal enemy to her many Latino constituents and will probably get bored with the job in a few months just like she burned out and lost interest in the school board.
Meanwhile, TKC'S FORTHRIGHT CRITICISM OF PAT CONTRERAS AND HIS SCANT EVIDENCE OF COMMUNITY INVOLVEMENT CLEARLY RESONATED ACROSS THE STATE and so Judy Baker better send me a thank you note or a bunt cake and I'll return the favor by forwarding her the number of a good hair stylist.
TKC TOLD YOU SO!!! DEMOCRACY STAYS LOSING AMID VOTER APATHY!!!
Here's where this blog is better than mainstream punditry . . . To start the week our blog community predicted low turnout and returns in both Missouri and Kansas proved as much . . . The reality is that Trump and Hillary are turning both Republicans and Democrats away from voting booths. In Kansas, turnout was just as expected with about 24 percent of registered voters (roughly 1 in 5) making the journey to the polls and Missouri was even less enthusiastic with a turnout FAR below the 31 percent predicted by the SecState.
Social Media Activism Stays Winning!!!
Turns out it's easier to annoy friends and family with politics and memes than volunteer, learn about candidates or vote.
The greatest takeaway from this primary is that, with a few notable exceptions, politics has now become more of an American spectator sport where most citizens have given up on even the slightest bit of participation in the political process.
