DEAD TREE MEDIA DEMISE: KANSAS CITY STAR DISMISSES DOZEN MORE WORKERS!!!

Given that the demand for happy news regarding the toy train streetcar and the Mayor's latest bow tie seems to have dried up amid the digital era . . . Here's the latest word regarding a fading institution which mostly served to control and limit the local discourse:

KCUR: "The Kansas City Star laid off another dozen employees Monday, the latest round of cuts and buyouts at the newspaper over the last few months. The laid-off employees included copy and web editors, several people in marketing and longtime outdoors editor Brent Frazee, a 36-year veteran of the newspaper. The new round of reductions follows voluntary buyout offers and layoffs in March that shrank the newsroom by at least 10 employees . . ."

  3. Frazee was one of the few reasons to pick up a copy. Maybe we can ask Yael to write another sky is falling on Kansas pieces.

  8. Who's left? Yael? Lynn Horseley is still the the only city hall reporter with a key to the media room at 414 E. 12th street. Screwy Louis, a.k.a. Black Yael and Mary Sanchez, a.k.a. Brown Yael round out the editorial department. Don't remember if Mike "the human stain" Hendricks is there any longer either. About the only thing they've got left is a printing press and a big greenhouse. They're extorting money from Price Chopper at .19/per mail piece at 600,000 pieces a week but that ain't gonna keep the doors open. You know when the Marketing staff, or parts thereof get shown the door, things ain't rosey. But when you publish fully idiotic pieces from readers on rape that are completely disconnected from reality (Todd Akin - legitimate rape) what can you say. This is a right of center city despite what the above four left-winger columnists may believe, and when some piece of crap like that rape column get past whatever proofreaders are left (if any), in print and on line, subscribers (again, what's left of them) leave in droves. Single copy sales aren't enough to keep the doors open either despite how they jones up the circulation audit figures. Those same figures show a 184% readership in the East Bottoms by the way despite the fact there are only 160 some odd single famy homes there. How? Single copy sales. Makes a body wonder how many college interns and recent grads are staffing the place at 20 hours per week and $12/hour. The sad truth is that this paper, for lack of a better term, is far from the "paper for the people" Baron Bill chartered in the late 1800's.

  9. When they show Mary the door there might be hope that the prolonged death is imminent.

  10. The Star only cares about the money they make from Nebraska Furniture Mart and grocery store flyers. Oh, and that INK piece of crap too.
