TKC MUST SEE TOY TRAIN MOVIE REVIEW!!! OUT-OF-TOWNER STREETCAR ENTHUSIASTS LOVE FREEBIE RAIL TRANSIT AS LONG AS KANSAS CITY RESIDENTS ARE PAYING!!!

Once again we're forced to fact check a selfish cabal of streetcar enthusiasts who would not only subvert local Democracy for their consulting contracts but also burden broke-ass Kansas City voters with funding a smallish line has resulted in police cuts, deferred maintenance on local infrastructure and degraded City Hall finances all around.

To wit and apropos for Throwback Thursday . . .

CELEBRATE THIS EPIC ANIMATED MOVIE DEPICTING KANSAS CITY'S RAIL TRANSIT HISTORY AND HYPING THIS COWTOWN'S TOY TRAIN STREETCAR FUTURE!!!

Credit where it's due . . . It really is a magnificent short movie that totally leaves out the corruption involved in the design of the Downtown KCMO TDD and voter rejection of the extension effort in 2014.

And that's the problem . . .

RECENT RADIO CONVERSATION FROM SUBURBANITES AND MEDIA CHATTER PROMO EFFORTS LOVE THE TOY TRAIN BUT DON'T CONTRIBUTE A DIME TOWARD PAYING FOR IT!!!

One top echelon insider makes it plain:

"The Johnson County residents wanting the streetcar or light rail extension to the stadiums or the airport should be ashamed of themselves. They're acting like vampires. Of course it would be nice to park and ride from the Plaza to Downtown and beyond but they'll take their cars if the streetcar ever charged even a nominal fee and they would be completely unwilling to pass a bi-state tax to fund more local rail transit. It's a shame that there is no balance among people who talk about the future of the streetcar because it's mostly pie-in-the-sky dreaming that leaves Kansas City residents picking up the tab."

And that's a good place to talk about this movie from a brilliant artist living across The Pond which draws a beautiful picture but then forgets about the bill.

Director description . . .

"The Kansas City Streetcar project (KCSCP) is gallery event celebrating the city’s history of the streetcar and its arrival. Everyday the world publishes endless amounts of information and data. The (KCSCP) focuses on acquiring information found on newspapers, press releases, books and on the internet and transforming it into an infographic and typographic art work. The intention behind this process is to convert words found on everyday readings to an aesthetically appealing design.

"Alfred Morro, a British citizen from Gibraltar has developed on the project for past two years. His aim of the campaign is to educate, entertain and create a positive message of the benefits the streetcar will bring to Kansas City through the expression of information graphic design, typography, branding and animation."

  1. The epitome of they called touristy frou-frou back when the first tried it in the 90s.

  2. I think you're overestimating the clip Tk.

How much did this cost Kansas City taxpayers?

Is it coming out of the the TDD or the general fund?

These are the questions you should be asking.

  5. Streetcar resulted in police layoffs, we have proof, which is that we wrote it on a blog. Also, it is why your beloved grandma is dead. And probably it is why America is not great again.

  6. FYI David Johnson is now making public pleas for the Crossroads to have their property tax abatement renewed because the commercial art galleries owned by grassroots investors that put kc on the map nationally as an arts destination are at risk of being priced out due to TDD, Cid, and streetcar.

I'm not against the subsidies but this is a self imposed problem and he must have a lot of nerve to put the needs of loft dwellers in the Crossroads over families living east of Troost with children at risk of violence.

I have a child's understanding of the world and about 6% of the information on any given topic I expound on! I hate hipsters but wear wooden glasses and bow ties while I draw alt-cartoons!

  8. Jesus, move to Springfield or Joplin already. The fucking street car is built so get over it. Every damn day crying about the thing. And Bryan, enough with the white guilt already. I would rather subsidize productive, non-violent members of society in the Crossroads than people East of Troost who have been subsidized for generations in the form of welfare. Those children at the risk of violence" are the same ones causing the violence.

    1. Public resources should be used to improve the quality of life for all citizens with the bulk of resources ensuring that even the poorest have access to quality education, transportation, and health. The government uses money that should go to bridges, sidewalks, parks, libraries and schools to build parking garages for developers downtown or the Plaza, or to repair "blighted" property so that existing businesses can move a few blocks to a newer space. By investing east of Troost and reducing crime and blight, it will attract new growth to our city with less corporate welfare.

I like the streetcar. I ride it and I spend money in the crossroas. But I was riding the bus and spending money in the Crossroads before the P&L district existed. Now we're having to subsidize folks who invested there decades ago that can no longer afford the taxes. Thats a problem we created all so that white folks could have neater public transit.

When we see protests of inequality going on in cities around this country we should look at the streetcar and be ashamed of how we've prioritized our money.

  9. David Johnson is a leaching slime bag coward. He could care less about anyone who doesn't belong to his so called "progressive gay hipster class".

I was talking to a guy just the other day about the Johnson dilemma who said "I hope when the columns begin tumbling one lands right the fuck on his head".

  10. Anyone find out more about Dave Johnsons three one light tower apartments he uses to entertain so called guests?

Who's paying for it? Or how it's being paid for?

  11. The two predominate problems are a Corrupt-Totalitarian-Government-By-The Few(city, state, federal-combined) and a worthless populice, 50% at fault, for allowing it's existence. Just like the commenters on this blogsite. All nothing, but typing words. Unless Revolution by Guerilla Warfare is raging to eradicate this Government, nothing is happening but the status quo.

  13. Fumaking shame that people think Kc is only about the streetcar.

    ReplyDelete
  14. These suburbanites who have taken their one and only streetcar ride love it because it's free and they can take a family of six on it for nothing. If it was extended to UMKC and it would now cost that family of six $9.00 each way to ride it, I doubt it would be very popular for the tourists.

  15. Scott Parks loves the streetcar. The first few months have made him a fan. But he doesn't live anywhere near the TDD or KCMo. I like his show but the fact that he'll never pony up any money for it makes his opinion suspect.

    ReplyDelete
  16. Let's stop the free ride now. Make the tourist pay for it.

  17. You think this is bad? Just wait until you see the new airport plans to go around the voters! They make this ripoff look like peanuts.

  18. What's $100 million between friends? We should just all take Dave's word for it. Right?

    ReplyDelete
  19. You got nut jobs like Clay Chastain still lurking around and this freak may end up getting his wish. The extension to UMKC will probably happen and some kind of light rail from the airport to downtown will probably happen with the city figuring out some kind of way to still make money off of airport parking- maybe actually charging people a buck or so on the rail line from the airport similar to what St. Louis does on their Metrolink line from Lambert airport to Laclede's Landing in downtown STL.

  20. Only "white folks" can ride the streetcar says Bryan X, the voice of black Kansas City. That's weird, I see black, brown, no Asian people on it all the time.

    ReplyDelete
  21. Quit trash-mouthing us Johnson County people. We still spend our money in your decrepit Kansas City, and we're the only thing keeping it from turning into a giant stinking turd like Detroit.

  22. Yeah, sorry, kiddies. Pretty much everybody likes the streetcar. Sucks to be wrong, I guess.
