And so the election season discourse is in full gear with this message from Kansas City's top transit activist . . .

Chastain kicks off light rail campaign at Union Station

Addressing Councilman Dan Fowler's comments that the light rail plan is "not a plan, but a fairy tale."

Councilman Fowler...

(1) is living IN a fairy tale land if he thinks a 2-mile downtown streetcar line hooked up to a grossly expensive and less than effective bus system is the kind of modern comprehensive public transportation system we need to make Kansas City great again;

(2) is living in a fairy tale land if he thinks we do not need to connect our airport to downtown, the northland to the southland, and the eastside to the westside with a rapid citywide light rail train system;

(3) is living in a fairy tale land if he fails to recognize that citywide light rail systems, like so many other cities are building, are now becoming major selling points for attracting new residents, businesses, conventions, and visitors back to struggling cities, like Kansas City.

Fowler's ignorance concerning this issue, and the city's lack of its own comprehensive rail plan, is why this light rail petition exists and why voters are going to stampede to the polls to adopt it.

And by the way, who is this attorney to be advising the rest of the council and the voting public to vote no on this complex engineering transit proposal when what he knows about transit and urban planning you could put on the small end of nothing whittled to a fine point?

This is the greatest light rail system ever designed in the United States. Too bad Councilman Fowler isn't informed enough to realize it.
