TKC BREAKING AND EXCLUSIVE NEWS!!! COUNCIL RAGES AMID TALK OF JOLIE JUSTUS SCHEME TO PUSH NEW SINGLE-TERMINAL AIRPORT PROJECT TO PORT AUTHORITY WITHOUT VOTER APPROVAL!!!
It seems the defeat of Kansas City single-terminal airport plan was short-lived and now there's word of a renewed push to undertake the project without the permission of voters.
To wit . . .
CITY COUNCIL IS ABUZZ AND MAD AZ HELL OVER WORD OF A NEW JOLIE JUSTUS PLAN TO PUT THE NEW SINGLE-TERMINAL AIRPORT SCHEME IN THE HANDS OF THE PORT AUTHORITY!!! SADLY, POWER PLAYER LAW FIRM SHOOK IS SAID TO BE IN THE DEAL AS WELL!!!
Insiders knew the victory over this bad ideas wouldn't last long but it seems that manufactured consent via Twitter could be all the Mayor and Council lady Jolie Justus need to push this hot mess over the top.
Of course our blog community is FIRST to break this news despite some previous hints that a monstrosity of a deal like this was coming long ago and before newsies were paid well NOT to write stories that are circulating at City Hall.
What's unfortunate here is that the so-called champion of Missouri gay rights is mostly working as a-sort-of shill for Mayor Sly and her bar buddies nowadays . . . On the bright side we could call that progress inasmuch as a lady denizen of the LGBT has just as much right to be as disappointing as any other politico in service of Mayor Sly's development agenda.
Now . . . This move is in its planning stages and there's already talk about how to block this power play that has been hinted quite some time.
What's new here is the push to eliminate voters from this process with social media hype and the same kind of citywide voter disenfranchisement that has been the hallmark of Mayor Sly's administration.

New airport is a non starter, I think the debate is how we can get the port authority to take over the streetcar extension.

ReplyDeleteIs she working with Southmoreland or Westport to make improvements? Nope. Is she working on complaints from uber drivers that they're being intentionally blocked. Nope. There are other things going on in the city besides the airport that people don't want.

ReplyDeleteTalk about a conflict of interest. Justus is chairman of the Airport Committee of the City Council and George Wolf is a Partner in Shook, Hardy , Bacon and the Chairman of the Port Authority. Where is the outrage??? Where are the local reporters??? This is big news!!!

DeleteIt's about making people with wealth wealthier. That's what this is. A new airport isn't going to benefit the city. Who flies into a city because they have a shopping mall for an airport? The answer is nobody. So why the FUCK would we incur over a billion dollars in debt, paid for by high taxes and/or higher airline fees for something that we don't really need?
