In a murder case that shocked the metro and beyond, the young suspects accused of a horrific ambush stabbing aren't earning any sympathy from Jackson County Prosecutors.
The teens were 13 & 14 years-old at the time of the crime but that's not preventing grown up allegations against the pair after police reports that the duo drove around with their alleged victim's corpse after killing her with a pocket knife made international headlines.

Fox4: Second juvenile charged as an adult, accused in killing of Tanya Chamberlain in Lee’s Summit
KMBC: Jackson County Prosecutor Jean Peters Baker said Joshua Trigg, 15, is charged with first-degree murder, robbery and armed criminal action.
While DNA evidence reportedly links both suspects to the crime scene along with a litany of other factors, like it or not, the young age of the defendants will most likely be part of their defense.

Earlier in the proceedings, talk of sexual molestation faced by one of the defendants stalled the decision on their competency to stand trial as adults.
Interestingly, as Jackson County Prosecutor Jean Peters Baker faces an uncontested election she seems to be noticiably stepping her slate of hard charges in high-profile cases as of late.

Unfortunately, thanks to an outrageous ruling from the SCOTUS, a death sentence is out of the question. These scumbags certainly deserve to be executed. I hope their prison experience will be so horrible that they wish they were dead. Get it, Bubba?

The fact that they committed a terrible crime in no way changes the PHYSICAL fact that neither of these CHILDREN has a brain that is developed enough to govern judgment. Punishing a 14 yr old as an adult for murder is no different than spanking an infant for wetting his diaper.
This is NOT to say that these boys should not be punished -- but within the juvenile system.
And, anyone who thinks that race is not a factor in such decisions should understand the history of the changes in the law that led to even being able to treat children as adults in such cases.

KANSAS CITY, Mo. —Former Jackson County Executive Katheryn Shields and her husband were indicted Thursday on federal charges of taking part in a mortgage fraud scheme.
Shields, 60, and her husband, attorney Phillip Cardarella, 59, and nine other people are charged with one count each of conspiracy and 11 counts each of wire fraud.
Federal prosecutors allege that the couple were approached by a group of individuals last fall who offered to sell their home, which was listed at $699,950, for $1.2 million.
The couple was to receive $707,000 of that amount, the remainder being split among other co-defendants and explained to lenders as a "management fee." To get the mortgage approved, the defendants allegedly provided lenders with fraudulent financial information and inflated property appraisals.
Officials said the FBI stopped the transaction from going through.
